This whole thread is the idea of tanking. You do not outright tank until you're proven mathematically out of the playoffs. When that happens you get a feel of your roster and play everyone to see if they can help during the rebuild. We should only tank once the playoffs are out of reach. Which may not happen until mid December.

Ironic how you accuse me of spinning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, dude, if you don't see MIA as tanking, you need to pick a different sport, because you appear to have no understanding of this one.

MIA traded away their best players. C'moooooooooooonnnnnn......

Pardon the interruption but didn't Miami dump guys who had gotten them to 0-7? Then promptly went 5-4 with what they had left? I'm going to need some help to understand how that equates to tanking?

Can you even imagine turning down Antonio Cromartie in his prime for Tashard Choice? Refusing 2nd round picks for Mike Jenkins and Mary Weirdo?

It’s sad how terrible this front office really is! Wise decisions just elude them!

You think the old guy who get relegated to the bench just as they start to play better will be "happy?" You only get 16 games a year and the average career is about 60 games.. So you are proposing that guys be happy be robbed of what amounts 11-12% of their career games? Happy working their butts off all week so they can stand around on Sunday not playing? I repeat.. if you have to ask why you don't tank then you are pretty much guaranteed not to understand the answer. It's either in you or it isn't.
Dallas has enough injuries it won't be problem...

no its not tanking is far different then organically losing anI know I’d rather have the pick than those 5 meaningless wins in 2010. Garrett made a living out of turning a great pick into a mediocre one while going no where! Solid plan! lol the team sucks fans who support systematic tanking are Frauds..it no different then point shavings or players/coaches betting on their own games and making sure it comes out their way..it makes sports dirty and competitive spirit and pride is lost. Sports are pure when you mess that up by slanting the outcomes IN ANY WAY purposely, its tainted..

so dont try and spin it , there no positive's to purposely tanking..

stop trying to explain it to make it better..

if you lose putting in your best players available and calling the best plays and game plan to win, thats simply losing organically, NOT taking..MIA didnt tank they reorganized and prepared for the following year and actually played better down the stretch and got Tua what 5th overall NOT #1 they didnt try to be the first pick and landed at 5..they fell into tua because he slipped due to injurys and question marks..

Tua may turn out to be great, no one knows but herbert went 6th and might be better long term.. so fall where you fall draft well and hope for the ebst..no losing by design..

you play to win the game!!

you actually play to win the games that matter, once they no longer matter it’s like winning a preseason game and means absolutely nothing! Fools gold. Then when you’re not winning games that matter next year.. and the year after that and so on. There in lies the problem! Improving your team and competing long term for championships is always the goal. Winning crap games, not so much!

Jimmy didn't play better players so he could get the draft picks. Smart tanking.
No such thing, and your version of better players is like asking Jason Witten to start at TE today

Jimmy didn't tank 1989, no good coach would. Have a read: https://www.___GET_REAL_URL___/s/www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-sp-jimmy-johnson-dolphins-20190919-dop6objxpncfrdlvizz2ucqwky-story.html?outputType=amp

Whats wrong with tanking. The objective is to get better over time. If you are purposely not trying to do that then the coach should be fired because the players wont respect him.

With this particular team, there is something very bad about tanking and to even have the players think they are losing on purpose sends the wrong message about the guy they're tanking to replace. If there is one player on that team that doesn't have to backup to a paycheck, it's the QB.

The OL didn't block well enough for him so now they're going to lose on purpose to replace him?

That's not just the QB they'd be tanking on, he's their leader. He risked his career to try and make a play for them because a couple of inches higher and Prescott might be gone the way of Theismann.

How does any coaching staff even approach their players to lay down. If it's one thing we can say about them, they resurrected their heart in the last two games and at least can now take the field with some pride.

If the Joneses were capable of such a thing, they would have to change out most of their players form a team that took a dive. Just like a boxer, once they do that, nothing is ever the same.

And let's add another element to this. How do the coaches and players look at their wives and kids if there is even a hint that they're tanking?

But, the biggest reason they cannot tank and will not tank is that they're America's Team, even with that record, they're still that and Americans, even those that don;t like the Cowboys, aren't going to abide the most publicized sports team in the world becoming the Black Sox. Think Goodell and the other owners would sit still for a tank from the Dallas Cowboys?

This team is so strapped for talent, they don't have to tank.

and got better won games down the stretch ended with 5th pick not first.. like us in some ways cut bait with players who weren't getting it done or they knew they didnt want to overpay but actually still went out an fought hard at the end of the season like ATL as well..no one quit they were thinking of 2020 but still game planned to WIN.. they went 2-0 beat the phreaking Pats last game, went 3-3 ast 6 they actually got BETTER every single game down the stretch for them was hard fought and close..so no they didnt TAMK for tua they lucked into Tua dropping to 5 due to injurys concerns..Heck Herbert fell to 6th so the DC should not worry about top 2 picks, seldom do the top 2 picks actually become franchise players..so take the nonsense out of here..!! If MIA was tankignwhy did they not play rosen, Fitz was the best option and he went out and made it happen..

jimmy did not tank after the walker trade. he understood how bad the cowboys had become and he realized the quickest way to getting better was having a lot of draft picks. he could have started some of the viking players, but the team would only have gotten marginally better, not the caliber of excellence jimmy desired. so he went into the deal with the idea in mind that he wouldn't play them and get the draft picks. i don't see the logic in saying he tanked the season when the team couldn't have been any worse to begin with. what he wisely did was make the team better by trading and thru the draft process. that isn't the same as tanking a season.

Several teams have tanked. You must do it legally. Often it doesn't work simply due to bad mgmt. Det for Stafford, INDY for Luck, and now MIA for Tua and a host of early draft picks. If MIA uses those picks wisely and Tua pans out, MI could easily be a super bowl contender very soon. Trading Herschel Walker was tanking. OAK tanked, not sure it's going to work out.

Texans tanked, but it was unintentional!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Indy didn't tank for Luck. Peyton went down with the neck injury. They just weren't good in 2011.

peyton's future was very iffy at that time. luck was a good pick. too bad injuries ended his career so soon. and good that peyton went out in style.

Ethics in football went out the door around the time plastic helmets replaced leather helmets.

So, I say this: What's ethical about freezing a kicker? Or stashing healthy players on the injured unable to perform list?
Or coaches blowing smoke about their intended draftee and then choosing another?
What is ethical about fans making it impossible for the opposing QB to hear his cadence or a feigned injury to stop a clock? Or announcers breathlessly promoting an upcoming game between a 9-1 team against a 1-9 team?
Or deflated balls, stolen signals and sweetheart deals by municipalities to attract and keep NFL teams?

This proud rude boy from Leeds long ago gave up thinking there were ethics in professional NFL?

Me? I think of tanking as a strategic plan to make a football team better.
If you think tanking for 2021 is wrong, then I don't want to be right. So then go ahead enjoying your 8-8 seasons and the upcoming 3-13 season.

Holla and brings me a dollah!
Or holla and just owe me a dollar!
We've got two bogan idiots running the draft so why tank. We could have picks #1-7 if it were possible and those two bogans would still find a way to stuff it up. Nothing will ever change> I'll never see another SB again. Might as well be spoiler for a couple of teams if we can --- oh I forgot, the main bogan idiot decided to take out the best QB Gilbert and put back in the Red Rooster. Never mind - what chance we had with Gilbert has now gone out the window. SO to answer your question - I no longer care.
