Brandon Carr was advertised as an impact FA, but he was not. And yes, I called it when we signed him.
Sigh....this isn't even up for debate. NO one is questioning how good Carr was. I'm saying in that free agency class Carr was graded as one of the best corners. If I'm not mistaken it was him and Corteland Finnegan. Those were big time signings......

Yes they are.

All pro is not the definition for impact FA's. Narrowing the field after asking a question seems pretty weak.
I didn't narrow anything....at the end of the day my point was free agency is full of players other teams didn't want. I stand by that. That list is inaccurate for starters. Darius Slay was not a free agent traded for.

No, the point is that you have to continuously change the parameters in a weird attempt to be right. You weren't. Not any more complicated.

Yes, he was supposed to be an impact FA signing, on that I agree.

You changed the parameters. You created a list with guys like Darius Slay who was TRADED FOR. Then you list guys who got similar deals to Brandon Carr. You can try negate what I'm saying. That's fine. You don't have to agree with me. But history says you are more likely to regret the free agent you picked up in free agency then you are your own free agent you signed. Take that however you will.

Trying to think of the last time Dallas signed in an impactful defensive player that actually worked for Dallas. Not just re-signing a player or signing a big name player at the end of his career. Signed a big name free-agent defensive player then that player was actually good for his contract or the majority of his contract. Brandon Carr maybe in 2012? The last true defensive free agent signing that had a great impact at Dallas to me is La’roi Glover all the way back in 2002.
You mean like when we signed Jayon Smith ?

That was all of 5 years ago..

And you can't remember?

Now Smith was not a FA but he was a player with only one leg and we gave up a high #2 draft pick to select him.

Nobody but Jerrah Jones would have paid more than a 6th for him.

But our GM likes names..not results.

You need to wash your mouth out with soap.

Glover the biggest name. Then they change the defense from 4-3 (Glover was a 1 tech DT 4-3 D) to 3-4.

One other unsung signing was Ryan McNeil who led the Cowboys in interceptions and was then let go. He went on to have 8 interceptions, and make the Pro Bowl. Jerry Dumbo GM Jones.

Jerry Dumbo GM Jones would not know a play making football player if one bite his wrinkled butt. Ask Demarcus Ware, Darrin Smith, Jimmy Smith, Chavarius Ward, Taco Charlton, Randall Godfrey, Ron Stone, Brock Marion, Willie Jackson, Omar Stoutimire, etc. Jerry Dumbo GM Jones could not keep the players he had let alone signing the best from some other team.

Did you forget that you added "all pro" to the parameters? That wasn't in the original parameters.

I agree that big ticket signings generally don't work out.

Smith was choice #3.

Plan A was to deal up for Paxton Lynch. Price was too high (which still blows my mind but that's another story entirely).

Plan B was the edge guy Ogbah. He was taken immediately on Friday.

They almost seemed lost and/or unprepared for what to do in that spot.

Jerry went ahead and took one of his calculated risks.

The sick part is it actually paid off.....Jerry decided to annoy Elliott during the holdout and pay someone just because.....

Then the dude mailed it in and somehow forgot how to play football.

What amazes me the most about Smith is his story is borderline movie material, and he should be a very likeable figure, yet he has somehow found his way into being one of the most unlikable players in history.
