But Hill and Gallimore next year will be improved over what they showed this year, especially Gallimore. Dallas had a second round grade on both and they will have more development, more experience and a lot more time in the defensive scheme.

Look at the dramatic jump Hill made from last year to this year and then add that to both players again. And there is no question both guys have the physical skills to be above average starters.
And you can find fatties in rounds 3 and 4. With Hill and Galimore to go along with Lawrence and Gregory, I’d draft Parsons in round 1, best safety in round 2 and a fatty in round 3. This defense would be so much better next year with those 3 additions plus any others that you can make on that side of the ball through free agency and the draft.

Agree on all but one point. Shutdown corner in the first is a hill I will die on.

Neither of those guys should keep us from drafting a pass rushing DT high.

I took the same approach with Gallimore to Hill. Just because we drafted Hill high as the 2nd round, that it should not deter us from drafting another DT high.
But I'm taking the same approach as we should not be drafting a DT.. just for the sake of drafting one.

Frankly speaking it would just have to be a upper echlon blue chipper DT (ala Aaron Donald or JJ Watt)
You select a DT in according to high he grades on your draft board. Such as he grades out so well and comes with such value that you can't pass him up per value
for the sake of just filling other needs.

Otherwise I'm determined to see what we have in young Gallimore and Hill who not only flashed such promise and potential this year but consider high investments
before adding a just for sake of DT.

Fact is Watt’s tweener size scared some teams off. There have been multiple guys who weren’t able to carve out a role with a similar physical profile. That being said I hope they learned their lesson about size vs talent.

Looking at Brugler's draft list, so far CB looks like the best bet if they end up with a top 10 pick. Non QBs are OT Sewell, WR Chase, LB Parsons,
CB Farley, CB Surtain, TE Pitts, WR Waddle.

You have to think the best scenario is trading down for the extra #2 and taking Farley or Surtain.

But interesting thought - if your pick is around 8 and you really think Pitts will be a HOF type like another Tony Gonzales, do you pull the trigger?

We need cornerbacks. You may not like it be we have linebackers. Follow the money....... That will tell you who we draft in the early rounds. Corner, safety and defensive tackle 1tech. Unless the Cowboys shock the world and cut Jaylon. That is a pipe dream that seems to be pushed by local media.

Hill played better and harder. But he still ranked near dead last, if not dead last as DTs were rated.

Trust me, I like Hill. I have season tickets to UCF games and know a few coaches and some players. I want him to succeed more than most

The 2017 1st round was full of bust pass rushers.

People love to roast the Cowboys for taking Taco Charlton over T.J. Watt; but remember McKinley (Falcons) and Charles Harris (Dolphins) were picked ahead of Watt as well.
I was all over moving picks to go after Derek Barnett. He was supposed to be a Reggie White type pass-rusher with all of the saavy tools. Did not want Taco.

I’ll be honest and say it, I was not really on the TJ Watt train that much because he had some injury concerns and it was around the same time that his big brother was coming off of back to back injury years. I was like “ehhh...he might stay healthy. Maybe it’s a Watt thing”. WRONG!!!!!

Dramatic jump is a pretty generous spin. He went from inactive to starting in a rotation on the worst defense in team history, essentially functioning as a turnstile against the run to go along with zero sacks and 3 career QB hits. He played 86% of the snaps against Cleveland and the team gave up 307 on the ground and 202 in the air, forcing no turnovers. It's quite possible that any random practice squad player might be able to make a similar jump if you gave them 2 years in the system.

Maybe he's trending from invisible, to terrible, to at best mediocre. Should put us in a great spot come contract extension time.

But that rating is PFF, right? Their ratings are basically fans checking a few boxes, I don't give them any credibility.

He also started against top teams in the Seahawks and Rams and played well. Those teams were right at their season averages in rushing. The Cleveland game was a lot more about the scheme and guys like Poe.

If he is "terrible", why is Machota projecting him to start next year? No practice squad players available?

He was garbage. No sacks. 1 TFL. Horrific against the run.

But fans saw him on the field this year so it was a coming out party.

If he's starting the opener next year it's another epic fail for this front office.

Taco was a lazy **** primadonna at UM - Watt’s motor alone would’ve made me take him.

I’m guessing he failed the mental part.
So what did he fail?

They asked him what year it was and he said..

"Election Year".

Duh..

He could pass our physical I am positive.

McCoy did as did Poe as did Dix.

Easy peasy.

Sign him.

If we sign David Irving back from LV next year..

I can see it now..

The defense huddles and out of the middle rolls a huge cloud of smoke..

Irving is passing around a bong..

Takarist is adding more beatle dung to his dreadlocks and Tank is counting on one hand his sack total.

Handsome group there. Very dedicated.
