Heath was/is better than alot of the "football geniuses" on this board who suffer from dunning Kruger disease give him credit for. I thought he was one of the bright spots of our d-fense when he was a Cowboy.

Truth is Heath is a LOT better than some folks ever gave him credit for. Is he an all pro? Nope. But he is damn good, a player you can win with, and a whole lot better than anything we currently have. His biggest problem in Dallas was having to cover most of the time for the mental midgets he had playing around him.

Most of the time he was in deep safety coverage, when he didn't get many ints people trashed him for that. Or for not making the tackle when he had to run 30 yards to try and tackle a player that was running full speed, which is difficult to do for anybody.

No doubt he was/is not one of the top safeties in the league, but Dallas didn't use him properly...

Heath is proving what many of us already knew. Many players are better than they are allowed to be in Dallas due to the poor coaching, horrible culture, and ridiculous schemes. Once players escape, they are able to shine if they choose to go somewhere with real coaching and a scheme that allows their talents to be put to good use. You can't intercept a pass if the scheme you are playing in keeps you 10 yards away from every eligible receiver guarding a small piece of turf while the receivers are running free in between you and the next guy. Is that just not common sense? There are two philosophies on defense. React to the offense or dictate to the offense. Dallas has been a react defense for so long. It is simply a bend and try not to break defense hoping the other team makes mistakes at some point in each drive. It does not put players in position to make game changing plays. They are in position to prevent big plays but that allows the offense to easily pick up 5-8 yards anytime they want and work down the field.

Landry said that you get interceptions by being out of position. In other words if you're covering properly then the player you're covering won't get the ball thrown to them. I remember in one 14 game season Mel Renfro only had 20 passes thrown his way. He covered so well teams were afraid of ints and incomplete passes so they just went somewhere else with the football. Of course that only works perfectly if you have top defenders everywhere, in these salary cap days that's just not possible. Players like Heath have to go where they get paid more, team loyalty is pretty much out of the window...

Heath played absolutely hard every snap man. Whistle to whistle he was flying around the field.

What he lacked in God-given talent, he made up for with tenacity. One of my favorite Cowboys of this current era.

Not nearly as good as Woody, but both started, played ST, hit, and played hurt.

  • 3 interceptions (career-high)
  • PFF's #3 ranked safety in the NFL
  • PFF's #2 ranked safety in coverage
  • PFF's highest-rated Raider on defense
  • AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Thats a bit crazy isnt it,, makes you wonder as a delusional fan doesn't it.
Maybe nobody has a clue, doesnt that make a bit of common sense.
Everyone hated Heath when he was on this roster,, Heath looking at a pay upgrade now...lol
You cant make this stuff up, until all you start realizing the real problem on this franchise your all doomed as well.
Thats sad, but the best truth I can give you.

he's a JAG.. unfortunately, that's better than what we have. But let's not act like he's Ed Reed.. He's Lynn Scott take 2.
Its really not about Heath,, but Heath is showing that it was a lot about environment/situation .. coaching, ownership,, dude that sold peanuts outside the stadium before the game.. ok,, getting a bit carried away, but just trying to drive the point.. the fundamental flaw in the system.

You miss the point,, take a look at his new environment.

He is playing much better. I will give him that. Dallas team culture is poisonous. Cowboys culture is shrouded in losing due to the front office. People will have to accept that until Jerry Jones dies, Dallas will NEVER make it past the divisional round of the playoffs. And there's no guarantee that his offspring will be less tyrannical when it comes to running team operations.
