so he looked good against Pittsburgh... do you think he could be a good starter? or has he hit his ceiling as a backup?

Reminded me of Dan Marino, with a hint of Brady, sprinkled in with some Young mobility.

possibly good QB3 , possibly 6th round trade potential that.
Gilbert is 29 years old and never done squat in this league.. time is out..

Kurt Warner was sacking groceries when he got his call, and that turned out pretty well. Even then Warner only got to play due to Trent Green’s injury.
how many players have never gotten a chance due to bad coaching evaluations\decisions? we will never know, but we know its probably many.

He was drafted in 2014, the Cowboys are his 7th team, and he's made on NFL start. He passed for 155 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, failed to score 20 points, and his team lost.

He's hit his ceiling. This isn't the next Kurt Warner.

His floor is higher than what we saw in DiNucci.

Gilbert made his first start in his 7th professional season. DiNucci made his in his 8th game as a rookie. Even Romo didn't make his debut until after 3 years of watching and learning.

Too early to draw any conclusions about DiNucci. The Cowboys had no business throwing him out there.

Age don’t matter much with quarterbacks. If he put together 3-4 games like he did against Pitts...someone would pay him 15M a year or more regardless of his age.

If he looks as good in practice as he did in that game, I have no problem him being QB2 next season. For a QB2, you need a guy that can come in and finish a game or start a game or two and be adequate. Typically if you are playing with your backup QB for long, your season is over(unless you’re in the NFCE).

What an epic blunder throwing him in there. I get the situation left them with limited options but they had to see his deficiencies in practice. If Gilbert starts the Philly game, I’m pretty confident we would be 4-6 right now and in the drivers seat in the division.

Gilbert has been on a lot of teams. He is not a young guy. His ceiling is a backup QB that will retire in a few years.

Remember that McCarthy has a history of making backups look good. Matt Flynn?

The ceiling on Gilbert with the offensive system and the OL that Dallas has can only be seen with a far more generous number of plays!
Thus far, we've only seen a minute number of plays with GG, even though he looked so competent vs. the Steelers. I'd like to see more.

To be totally honest, I believe he's likely best utilized as a backup, although it takes much more exposure than he's had with Dallas to rate him.
