The day my mom died, I took her home from the hospital and then went to the weight room to do a walk-through during off season workouts. I was on vacation and all three of my coordinators were there along with another seven coaches. I left her and my dad called me 40 minutes later to tell me she had died. Her last words were, where are the boys? All my brothers were there and I was in the weight frikkin room! I never forgave myself. That's the real reason I retired at fifty. I lost my edge.

My word, that was hard to read. I'm so sorry you went through that all my friend. *hugs*

Man there are a lot of people on here who have lost their mothers. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you guys who have lost a loved one. I am blessed that I have both parents although they are getting up their in age. I unfortunately lost my father in law in 07 and brother-in-law in 10. That was tough but not as tough as losing my child in 04.

Love you man...I lost my mother in 09..I've never been the same since..broke my heart in places I never knew existed...I was and I always will be a Mamma's boy.
I know the feeling bro. Lost my Mum, a jazz singer, who had the voice of a young Ella Fitzgerald, a year before the towers fell. She was a USO singer in WW2. None of us ever got over it and we're all still grieving. I'm glad she didn't see 9-11. It would've broken her heart that the world had sunk so low. She was such a gentle spirit.
My love to all who have lost theirs as well.

Yup it's hard to lose someone close, especially a mother. I lost mine on my birthday 27 years ago. She missed so much in my life, my struggles, my career, my wedding, my kids....to this day it is still hard to celebrate my birthday without a tinge of sadness. So I feel you all, but remember she is still there looking over you, I truly believe that.

Yeah....I don't like to speculate either...but he may have cardiac arrested, and the medical team was giving him CPR till paramedics arrived. Not sure how equipped the Cowboys medical team is as far as having intubation equipment. He could very well have been deprived of oxygen for a while till paramedics showed up.....possibly causing him to be anoxic, which can lead to brain death. Again....this is totally a guess on my part. I'm sure we will learn more in due time.

If it was cardiac I would think they would be in the middle of 24hs worth of hypothermia protocol before testing for brain death. That's kinda par for course for witnessed cardiac arrests. Good field CPR can make a ton of difference.....but I doubt they would have a crash cart or intubation tray at cowboys facility.

Lost my mother to brain cancer (Jan 5, 1962). She was 43yo and I was nine.

Bless all moms, all others who have lost close blood. c/s

Its time like this that makes you stop and reflect. I cant speak for everyone here but I know that we all as fans cannot agree on who should be our QB or coach that doesnt mean that when one of our Team member has fallen we cannot come together. I dont know what God has in store for Coach my heart breaks for the Family I pray heavenly Father that you will reach down with your loving arms and comfort all those during this time. Give the Dr the guidance on how to treat Markus and to be there for the Family. In Jesus Name I pray!!
Football is just Football and guys like Markus and even some here bleed for it but when it all comes down to it we arent just fans were Family!

Wow guys. For as somber as some of the personal stories are in this thread, they’re amazing to read. We all may express our fandom of the Cowboys in different ways, but as this thread shows, there is eternal power in human relationships. Reading your stories of loss hits hard for me, but also makes me appreciate you all even more, as people. Truly.

I lost my dad, my best friend, when I was 15 (nearly 20 years ago — wow). Sounds like it may be pretty similar circumstances to Mr. Paul, unfortunately. My dad had a massive stroke in the middle of the night, and though he was rushed to the hospital, his brain was deprived of oxygen for too long so he was in a vegetative coma. After nearly a week of being hooked up to life support with no progress, my sister (who was 12) and I, who were the closest of kin, were forced to make the decision to let him go.

So hearing the reality of Mr. Paul hits especially close to home for me. I pray for him and for his family to find peace.

Prayers for you bro. Those decisions that we are left to make are never easy. They’re heartbreaking. It’s why I always preach to give 100% in whatever you do in life damn why others think. Life is short, so make the best of it and don’t quit.

This thread pulls your character out. On this board, we may disagree at times, or a lot of times. We may be in "left field" with our comments at times. But this is just a game we are commenting on and about the people we're watching play that game. And then something like this happens.

But never is it lost.....that much love to each of you and Cowboy Nation. And always, thoughts for those who have to take a journey like the Paul family.

Much love Cowboy Nation

Wow these stories of losing mothers really hit at home this morning. I lost my mother at the age of fifteen. I will never forget that early morning when the phone rang. She was in the hospital being treated from a heart attack. Three days later the phone range around 3 a.m. My father answers with my sister picking up the other phone at the same time, I will never get the sound out of my mind of my sister screaming and wailing as she ran down the hall to my fathers room.

My father died a few years later at a healthy age of 55 of natural causes. We know he died from a broken heart as he never got over the loss of her. The were childhood friends and neighbors, got married at 18 and was together for every moment of their lives.
