I have a tie at the top with Dalton/Smith, followed by Jones and Wentz.

With the way Wentz is playing and the schedule they have, Pederson might want to take a look at Hurts and/or consider one of these blue chip QB's coming up in the draft.

Have you seen Wentz's contract........they're pretty much stuck with him for at least 2, maybe 3 more years.

Alex Smith is a real QB so the Skins look better with him but he is also 1-3 as a starter for them and has 2 TD passes with 4 INT.
46.4 QBR

By QBR:
Jones 65.8
Wentz 48.2
Smith 46.4
Dalton 38.2

If you are Dallas I think you believe Dalton is far better than 38.2 and that score reflected both rust and getting knocked silly.
And you may have a point given Dalton had an 81QBR last game.

I'd probably go:
1. Jones --Most athletic with least help
2. Dalton --Most steady vet. Takes whats there.
3. Smith --Scheme guy coming off major injury.
4. 2020Wentz --Turnover machine with the yips like a Kicker. Wasting talent around him and a great defense.

1 lacks weapons around him and has a OC with zero creativity.
2/3 could go either way as offenses adjust to what they can do and both guys knock off rust. Dalton has more weapons so should fare better over final 6 games.
3 --I'd go back to the kid if I am WAS and they lose Turkey Day game. He's sat and sulked and had a chance to catch his breath. His future be it via trade or whatever improves if he plays decently over final few weeks.
4 has elite potential but has been going reverse at 80 miles per hour on a crowded freeway begging to crash out of the lineup. Not sure I've seen anyone regress quite this badly this quickly.

They can dump him after next year for only 2M in cap cost --save a ton by cutting his base salary. But they could probably trade him off to a team who badly needs a QB like Jacksonville/Tampa/Chicago if they don't get to draft the kid they like this year. But do they really believe they have an answer behind him? If they go to Hurts over the final few weeks we will know a lot more about how they truly feel.

After Nick Foles, I don’t think either of those teams want that contract lol

I think many forget his #1 receiver and security blanket Ertz hasn't played in many weeks. In the past, whenever Wentz needed a big play he went to Ertz. Don't think Wentz is as bad as many think, his weapons in the passing game are not even average; Jackson/Jeffrey always hurt and heading towards their end of their careers.

They'd likely restructure it down to a very reasonable year 1/2 cost without guaranteeing anything else.
He is set to cost 35M next year but that is the Eagles mess.
They'd eat about 10M of that and leave 25M for the next team.
That team can get his cap hit down to about 10M if they desire and not guarantee a cent beyond 2021.
2022 salary & roster bonus fully guarantee on the 3rd league day of 2022 but if restructured/released before then it is GTD for 0.

A team could trade for him and kick the tires than eat a dead cap hit to move on spread over 2 years by designating him a June 1st release or restructure him so that the cap hits are reasonable and no big money is GTD after 2021.

The team with the least flexibility is as usual when a contract is drawn, the team who makes it. They don't have cap room now or into the near future and they can't really spread his money out because without handing him more guarantees to extend.

When the Eagles went for it all to win the Title I was shocked.
Like why would you handicap your salary cap going forward the next 3-5 years around a young franchise QB??
They literally made it nearly impossible to have depth by adding high salary vets, flip restructuring them yearly and trading off draft picks.
It was kinda insane but they did the title. They also may have killed a promising young QBs career.
Eagles fans are insane and Wentz is closing to reaching that ledge.
He may need a fresh start elsewhere to recover.

None of those guys are better than solid, which is what you could say about Dalton, who probably tops this not so good list. The headline might be better stated, “Which of these guys are better backup QBs”, lol.

BTW, the list of current NFCE starting QBs on this list is the quickest explanation of why this division is clearly the worst in pro football.

D Jones is pretty easily the best QB in the NFCE right now.

That's less about him and more about the other 3 though.

Ertz isn't the same guy he was. He isn't even their top TE.
The weapons aged because Philly designed that around older dudes like Jeffrey and Ertz.

Philly entered this year with Ertz/Dallas at TE, Jeffrey/DeSean/Raegor/GWard/MGoodwin.
That is a good WR depth chart. But they doubled down on vets and those all crapped out.
In the draft they reached for Reagor. (I loved the kid as his Dad played at Tech just after me but 5'10" guys going in R1 with the depth of this class??)

Still let's not pretend he is stuck with Daniel Jones weapons.
He has solid RBs, a good young TE and a very deep if poorly chosen WR corps that keeps 2-3 legit Wr options on the field.

The NFCE sucks for a lot of reasons but being the worst hit by injuries and having the worst QB play is def up their at the top.

also
--Very/very poor GMs in NYG/WAS means lack of talent overall.
--PHI mortgaged future for title and title defense seasons. --Cap strapped and betting on older guys who tend to get hurt.--Restructure have meant holding onto guys like Alshon Jeffrey they should release.
--DAL decided to flip DEF to a 3-4 guy without properly finding replacements. --Horrendously poor vet free agency additions. --This can also be a side effect of asking scouts to flip the standards/traits for positions last second.

Smith has only started 2 games (the last two) and is 1-1.
He threw 32 passes and for over 300 yards versus the Giants and played over 3 quarters so I think it's fare to count that against him tho not technically a start.
1-2.
The other game he played just over half the game and they were behind when he entered so probably fair to wash that one.

All in all he hasn't had much success on the scoreboard with 2 TD passes and 4 INTs but he's been far more willing to throw the ball than previous Commander QBs and racked up decent yardage.
He should present our defense a solid test as we don't exactly light the world on fire at DB.

Smith
Jones
Dalton
Wentz

I feel bad for Wentz. He's a good kid.

Dalton as of 2 years ago would have been the best in the division (besides Dak) but he has really fallen off a cliff. 2015-2018 Dalton was legitimately carrying the Bengals franchise.
