It's my understanding that the Cowboys restructure a lot of contracts early on this season to open up cap room for 2021, most likely to be able to resign Dak to an extension. Dak is 99% returning, if they cannot come to teams again, I bet the Cowboys slap another tag on him.
They did that to free up money set aside for Dak.

-I don't foresee mass cap transactions happening. NFL isn't going to force teams to release players just for this upcoming season.

-There are a few contracts in which they can get out of after next season without too much dead money; Lawrence, Jaylon, Cooper to name a few. That would be the year in which we could see a high priced veteran released.

-Team has a war chest of draft picks coming this year with several comp selections. This is the best way to control quality talent at a discount rate. With all the contract extensions handed out recently, they are going to have to hit on these selections to balance their cap situation.
The NFL isnt going to give teams a pass on the cap just to give it. Before the season there were talks of teams borrowing from future caps to get players signed.

In terms of the draft being how the team controls the roster...Where have you been? The team has been doing this for yrs. Which is why they arent players in FA every yr. Until this yr and we saw how that went.

I would like to see Wilson as the top draft pick because of the salary cap. I can’t see why it would make any sense trading Collins. OT should be a priority in this draft as it is. Trading Collins would only serve to weaken the OL. Tyron can’t be depended on at this point. Martin may play OT very well, but the RG position would weaken if they move him.

Which is why i said IF McGovern can keep improving, i wouldnt see why they couldnt. Martin looks so natural out at RT. Not to mention how reports came out how out of shape Collins went into the offseason and how that contributed to him being hurt. I agree the more weapons u got the better. But a hip injury on a OL is bad news.

Ya know..

It's just too early to explore connect-the-dots like you want here.

Maybe the week before the draft we really know more.

We have an idea where Dak is with his rehab..

We know what draft pick we have to work with..

How much the Cap is going to change..

Is Dalton going to remain as a back up or are we scrambling like heck in case Dak is not ready come July..

just a few minor details.

I know there are more..

But I say " do not borrow trouble before it happens."

People in this Forum act like they don't have a clue what that means.

Not I said the pig.

The Joneses will tell everybody what they plan on doing as soon as the offseason gets here. Fans just refuse to believe them and are suprised when everything they said in Janurary happens starting in march and are crying about it in july. This teams is truely transparent

2021 is going to be a tough yr to find money.

Dallas cant afford to franchise Dak. So they either have to work it out to get a low 1st yr with a deal longer than 4yrs. Or slap him with the tag with the intention of trading him and draft a QB. Or just let him walk and draft a QB like BYUs wilson.

Players def need to be cut
Zuerlein, Brown, Canady, Thompson, C Jones. Frees up 9.5mil

Dallas def needs to keep Cooper, which will probably mean Gallup will be gone. So i see Cooper getting a restructure next yr can see them taking 15mil of his 20mil into a new signing bonus. Will free up 10mil.

With that Dallas could have close to 55mil in cap space. With a big part of that going to Dak if thats the route they go which i think they do. But i also think his first yr will be a low number. And i think he will sign for a longer deal with them injury guarantees to be high.

With Martin showing he can be moved outside and if McGovern can show something the rest of the yr, i can see Collins being traded. He would easily get Dallas a 2nd or a 3rd and something else.

Dallas def needs to bring back Aldon Smith.

Then there is the reports earlier in the yr that teams will be able to borrow from future caps. Because every team is going to feel the pinch of the cap in 2021.

Im starting to like what im seeing from guys like Gallimore, Jaylon and Wilson on the defensive side. Jaylon gets alot of flack because he's always on the screen. But there is no player on this defense that puts in more effort. The DTs have been covering him more and shielding him from opposing OL and hes been making plays. Wilson is playing like his JR yr in college where he was all over the field making plays. He's a hitter and IMO he makes Woods expendable this offseason.

Dallas has 1 more yr with Lawrence and they can free themselves. He's very good against the run but teams would rather take their chances loading up on his side and letting the right side beat them. I think next yr with Aldon having a whole offseason to get in football shape teams wont be able to do that anymore.

Dallas has questions going into next yr but they have alot already in place. Dallas will be fine with a healthy OL, Dallas will be better with a defense thats 1 yr into learning it.
Why are we cutting Greg the Leg? lol.

Normally Im with you latin but whats wrong with Zuerlein? And why get rid of Collins yes he came in out of shape got hurt and was out for the year but his a player. If he keeps his poor off season habits going then OK but i see no sense on getting rid of players that are hard to find.
Lets see if we can salvage Collins and we still need to add another Oline this off season.

Edit; go look at Voch's analysis of Lawrence on youtube ,talk about hustle

Zuerlein is ok nothing special. Certainly not worth 3mil, as Dallas has been able to find kickers cheap. He came in very out of shape from reports of people at the facility. Dallas can keep martin at RT get better production and keep mcgovern at RG, while getting a draft pick back for collins. Reup Looney for under 2mil gain cap space and add draft capital to build the team thru the draft. Now i think trading collins is a long shot but its not out of the question.

Why do people say that the Cowboys have an out with Lawrence after 2021? They’d have to take a 19M cap hit to dump him. The Cowboys weren’t willing to dump Tyrone Crawford for zero cap hit this year. Lawrence is not going anywhere until 2024 at the earliest, when his dead cap is 3M.

I see just the opposite.

I see us constantly surprised by this team and what it does.

Some average some great and some outstanding moves in the draft.

Like this year..

no way did Jones or the organization anticipate CeeDee being there.

One the other hand Jaylon Smith was also a big surprise. No way di we have any indications Dallas was going there.

Then there are the Taco's and the Hills..

So again..we never know what they are going to do until the moon and stars align.

Believe how you see it.. let's see if you are right. Lets revisit your evaluation.

Interesting stuff Lat. I enjoy your posts, whether I agree with them, or not it's always food for thought.

Agreed. It’s like going to a Walmart on a Saturday morning. I don’t agree with nearly anything I see but it is interesting.
