I was in favor of losing to get better then they showed up against PIT and beat MIN and I had false hope before that "tanking pendulum" swung back so swiftly.
The fan in me wants to excuse this with injury, losing their coach and not really ready to play a game but to be candid, this is such a cluster, I don't know where to begin with ideas to fix it in the near future.
Yes, they need a talent injection but ask yourself this and answer it without the fan glasses on. Are they really good at drafting? Are they good at FA acquisition? Are they good with retention contracts with players?
Let's be fair here about these injuries, could any team hold up with the losses this one has suffered? Our best player on the team was hit with the Cowboys OTC, Offensive Tackle Curse. Wanna get injured? Have we got a job for you. There are now 3 pro bowl caliber OL unable to suit up.
So, here I am, back where I was. In order for us to get help, we must look for every advantage to enable the brain trust to even begin to address the problems with this team. And here's the obstacle to that, the brain trust themselves. The same people that built that OL are the same people that built that secondary.
And it all starts with identifying the problems and addressing them. A team defense challenged for decades spent a 4th on a RB, then gave him a 90M deal, and a falling WR for a luxury pick and some oohs and ahhs from the media. All flash and splash.
It isn't about who these people pick; it begins with what they pick. First stage of problem solving, identify the problem. Can they even do that?
If they lose out and end up with a top 5 pick. Do you trust them not to screw that up? Tanking denotes a dividend but with these people isn't that just losing?
On top of this, I was one in favor of hiring this HC and now feel I was just flat out wrong. I get the feeling even if they give him steak, he's going to serve us Hamburger Helper.
