If we don't stick with Dak, I will be extremely upset as a fan

Not that I think that Dallas will have the number one pick, but they'd be out of their minds to pass on Trevor if he was available to them.

And I like Dak.
If we have a chance, which I doubt very much, to get Lawrence, Fields, trash, to the other QB stating to move up, can't remember his name.
I think they have to take him. Knowing our draft position and where these QB's may fall may have an impact what they do with Dak and his contract, tag him or not, sign him, let him go into FA, get a comp pick. As it would come down to can a rookie QB do as well as Dak for a rookie contract vs and huge $35 million a year contract.

Also what does Dak want, does he still want that 4 year deal, and Jerry wants that 5th year. I think that is a consideration also.

Just way too many unknowns right now, so I will wait it out, see where we pick.

Flip that take for a second..

What if we magically end up with the ability to draft Trevor?

What could we expect as a trade haul?

2 firsts, 2 seconds - at minimum? How much will that save us on contracts for other players.

I anticipate the issue this year will be the guaranteed figure.

Dak likely would enjoy the security of a 5 year deal, but Jerry might not be willing to guarantee enough to warrant it after the injury.

I actually think both sides would be fine with a 4 year deal.

I would rather have a QB like Lawrence on a rookie contract for 5 years.

I think this would spark a fire at least from fans, like a new beginning.
I like Dk, and won't complain if he is signed. But I am not 100% sold on him either. Just as I was not 100% on romo either. They both are / were, very good, but yet something was still off a bit.

I won't tie my fandom to one player. I'm a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Not the Dallas Daks.

That being said, Dak's the QB and will likely remain so. If Lawrence somehow falls to the Cowboys, I have no problem drafting him. He can sit behind Dak and learn for a season or two...then we have an QB competition and trade who we don't need. Win-win...ASSUMING Lawrence would fall to us, which isn't likely.

Yes I thought of that as well, what can they get as that type of a draft haul would be hard to pass up, knowing you have Dak at QB, but is he really the QB to keep, could be questioned for a long time.
The thing is, will the Dak haters go nut, or would they be happy with that trade knowing they can fix the defense and the OL within 2 years. As the team can still win during that time as well.

This became a pretty heated debate at my family's Thanksgiving table last night, for a large family of Cowboys fans who live in New York but whose grandparents were all Cowboys fans (who also never lived in Texas). Heck I've been such a die-hard fan that I signed up for this forum at 13 / 14 years old.

There were of course the typical aspects of any Thanksgiving conversation that came up - including race, politics, etc; that are not appropriate for this board.

but on pure football this is where I stand -

Dak was on track for nearly 7,000 yards. He is a proven starter who has been top 12 in each of his seasons, and would be in the MVP conversation right now if he continued playing as he was.

This team went from an offense that simply couldn't be stopped to an offense that simply can't do anything with only 1 man changing.

I will end it with this - Trevor Lawrence may look like the best prospect since Andrew Luck, but Andrew Luck's career was no where on par with how Dak Prescott's career is slated to go if he continues playing at the level he has thus far performed at.

Dak Prescott is young and proven. Give me the proven QB. With how Dak has performed and this franchise is operating, if Dak is not under center because the franchise didn't do right by him, I will become a fan of whatever team he goes it.

I'd rather have the firepower to fix the entire defense, and keep Dak.
Given how this team has drafted on defense in recent years...I'm siding with drafting a QB like Lawrence who has a far higher ceiling than Prescott and having $40 million to sign 3 elite defenders for a couple of seasons.

To be fair the offensive line is a huge concern given the state of it in recent weeks. So that will need to be addressed as well.

Trevor Lawrence has elite traits and if by some miracle Dallas has the chance to draft him and passes. I will no longer be a fan.
Is Trevor a sure thing?
No. But I am willing to roll the dice.
Wow, this is great to hear and I for one will hold you to it. We’re not taking Lawrence and you’ll be gone!!

I completely agree.

It's time for a fresh start.

Extrapolate the offensive stats from his performance this season over a full 16 games.

25% is a sufficient sample size for an extrapolation from a mathematical standpoint.

He was on track for the best season a QB has ever had in the history of the NFL.

lol Winston was the leading passer last year. How'd that go? People hung up on stats when they play from behind a majority of the time. Extrapolate that times 16 and you're lucky to go 8-8. The D stinks, the Oline is an issue, and they overpaid numerous guys... so what's another? This team is a long way off and now you have a QB coming off a horrific injury. This is not a good situation and you can surely bet Jerry won't make the correct call here so you have nothing to worry about.

If we just had Dak we could overcome all the injuries, turnovers, and bumblehead plays and be a contender.
