The one issue that has hounded this team

The issue that has hounded this team is COACHING. Jerry doesn't know how to pick coaches. It's simple as that. He lucked into Parcells, but Parcells left because Jerry wouldn't let him cook the groceries (that, and Parcells was simply too old to last in the game).

Jerry hires coaches and demands that certain assistant or position coaches remain, undermining the head coach. He doesn't know how to select coaches with the understanding that those coaches are going to bring in their guys. He's always look BACK to recapture the 90s glory days when smart franchises are looking to the FUTURE.

Find a bright, disciplined coach. Let him pick his staff and his players. And stay out of his way.

Discipline is a function of COACHING. There's a reason Jimmy Johnson and Bill Belichick teams rarely made mistakes.
This take makes sense

When you have problems in a franchise for more than 20 years, it's always organizational and the buck stops with the ultimate decision-maker. Enough of this "if the players did what they were supposed to do, then ..."

Who is ultimately over the players? Who keeps hiring coaches who don't stress discipline? Why are undisciplined players still playing and still on your roster? Why are other teams discipline and yours keep making the same mistakes over and over again? How can we learn from these other discipline teams so ours becomes discipline too? Who are the principal(s) involved in constructing and fielding a discipline team and what is keeping me from hiring them/him?

These are the questions and answers leaders are supposed to provide. And in 20 years, there has been one consistent leader. So all of this is on HIS shoulders.

Why not do it the easy way.....forget all of this and just blame Zeke for the offense.....and Jaylon Smith for the defense. Saves time.

The biggest issue is Jerry Jones believing that he is a football Yoda.

Consistency has pretty much been the death knell of this team. The best teams in the league play consistent football. They don't play down to their opponent, they just go out there and play their game. The SB winning cowboys teams all had it and it seems to be something that is very difficult to replicate. I suspect a large part of this is finding that fine amalgamation of talent and coaching.

I wouldn't expect this team to go anywhere until they fix this problem, and for those of you screaming for the firing of the coaching staff etc - this isn't something that started today, it's been this way for all of the 10 years that Garrett was coach, it was this way when Wade was HC and prior to him when Parcells was coach.

Hmmm...what has been the constant through Parcells, Wade, Garrett, and now McCarthy?

There have only been two coaches that would cut a player on the spot. Two real disciplinarians. Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. But coaches like that would also stand up to Jerry, soooooo.

This team is notorious for playing down to opponent and that is the identity of this team. It does not impose it's will on their opponents and that is the problem. The injuries didn't help yesterday but this issue was there last year and it was here this year when Dak was playing. Why do you think we see performances like the ones against the Jets last year, or for a team this loaded with playmakers is eeking out wins against the Giants?

Garrett was consistently mediocre, predictable and played not to lose instead of playing to win.

This season is defined by the variations in lineups from week to week.

Consistency is impossible with this many lineup changes.

I think consistency starts with having the same guys on the field every game, especially the stars. Losing Martin and Erving on the first drive really hurt them and changed the way they called the game. I have no doubt had Martin and Erving not gotten hurt the Cowboys would have won. When the announcers were talking about Dallas losing their two starting tackles, that is actually inaccurate. They lost their two starting tackles early in the year. Yesterday, they lost a backup to the starter and their starting OG who moved out to tackle. They were playing backups to backups. That's a big deal.
It was like a preseason game with the oline in there. That's the oline of a preseason game in the 4th quarter to evaluate who will be cut. With Martin out we had 3rd and even 4th stringers. When Martin went down the game basically was over. It wasn't if we would lose but when we would lose.
