I know I’m not capable of being a successful NFL GM. I’m not qualified. And neither is Jerry or Stephen. They both qualified for the jobs the night Jerry’s check to buy the team cleared the bank. Let’s be honest- there isn’t a team in this league that would hire Jerry or Stephen as a GM. None.

If I owned this team, my first move would be to hire a highly qualified GM, let him hire his head coach, then hold them both accountable for results. That’s what the winning owners of the last 24 SBs have done.
X a gadzillion.

I've heard a few on here proclaim that they would insist on being GM if they owned the team. That is an extremely narcissistic viewpoint which screams at having a lack of self awareness. I mean, we're talking sociopathic. Not to mention delusional.

Well, you aren't, but I am! I own a couple of businesses and I don't let anyone else mess with my money. All I'm saying, if you think you are qualified and you enjoy it, you would do it. Obviously, you know your limits and you are not qualified. I respect that, but I will no longer read your dissertations since you aren't qualified!! Lol

If the team owner is qualified, sure. Jerry is not qualified.

I own a couple of businesses also. The best way to take care of your money is to hire top experts in key positions. The worst way to take care of your money is to insist on taking a position in your business at which you are terrible. I have the distinct feeling that you are a much better businessman than that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you aren't capable, yes. I am capable. Jerry isn't that bad. We're just spoiled.

If you have the NFL experience and knowledge, sure. I do not know your qualifications, so I cannot say.

Jerry is not that bad, he's far worse. His decisions have kept this franchise mostly mired in mediocrity. Facts speak for themselves.

Yes, but how many other teams haven't won a SB in the last 25 years....it's not as easy as some may think

Never said it was easy. And it's not just winning the super bowl, it's getting the right pieces in place so a team is a super bowl contender. Jerry is generally too busy chasing flash or falling for the Mo's, Escobar's, and Carr's of the league. A saavy GM would've known better than to take any and all of those 3. WR's and CB's are irrelevant until you are strong up front.

I get it, but most teams have misses in the draft. We're just critical of Jerry, because it's our team.

I am definitely strange!!!!!!!!!!!

You brought up how you think people would want to indulge their wildest fantasies by playing GM. I disagreed that people would want that, and judging from the fact that it's rare that a rich team owner insists on playing GM, I disagree completely that playing GM is what most would want. I think it's the opposite, I think most would not be so foolish to believe they could do a better job than the experts in that field, or any field. They might want to be involved in some way, sure, but not be the person responsible for personnel at every level.

gotcha.

let me clarify.

when I say “many people” I’m not referring exclusively to the 32 owners, I’m talking about everyday people and you’re being naive if you think there’s not a bunch of regular people who would be ok looking foolish in exchange for generational wealth.

but also in regards to the other billionaire owners, 2 things. First being none of them are making money the way Jerry is, so it’s not exactly apples to apples. And second, being an owner may be their fantasy just as an investment and figurehead, Jerry’s is clearly as a football man.

Getting rough East.
Agreed. It is more rough than what is typically stated to Jones, whenever someone with access to him either pushes a microphone in his face or have him on the other end of a phone call.

Either way Jerry will always be a legacy.. that makes your head hurt a bit when you think about it.

Well until a rational thinking billionaire steps up to the plate and offers up say Amazon, like it or not,, this will continue well after Jerry takes the dirt nap.
The Jones Legacy seems to have a firm grip on this team,,, many of us might be long gone before this lineage is ever broken.
However I will say on a positive note that a somewhat high draft pick is looming...

I cannot argue that point. Even so, legacies have always been a by-product of anyone's lasting impact on some part of society.

How far will Jones' specific legacy extend? That is the question. DNA Kid #1 could be a carbon copy of his father in regards to managing the franchise. That is a real possibility.

However it is not a certainty. Stephen Jones could take an altered approach to general management. There is no way of knowing for sure until the scenario actually presents itself. I just hope I am alive that long to witness whether the post-Jerry Jones era will be far less restrictive in hiring qualified football expertise outside his family circle at GM, stay the same, or become even more inflexibly narrow-minded than what has already been seen.

There are a few apples under that tree.
Jones apple tree has some rather deep roots when you look at it.
Stephen loves his job, his future.
Put yourself in Stephen Jones shoes for just a moment.. think this man isnt loving everyday he wakes up?
All SJ has to do someday is just say his graces and inherit a multi billion dollar asset, with instant power and instant fame.
Theres going to have be a quite enormous storm to knock this apple tree out of the ground.

This is what an NFL owner serving as GM looks like- failure. I hope he’s looking down at a mirror.

He has looked at that man in the mirror for years.

He has told that story along with the Love Field credit card one for at least two decades.

Screaming into his pillow at night is still relatively new though.

What you'll hear is the tried and true Love Field story about having his credit card cut up in front of him, and how he's going to take himself behind the woodshed......

......and continue operating the same way he has for the last 26+ years. And the fans will continue to watch, and keep buying merchandise. Rinse, repeat.
Exactly.
