In his defense, most of us on the CZ think we're a better GM than Jerry. So, if you owned the team, wouldn't you want to run it. He's not a tech nerd, he actually played the game and thinks he does a good job. I guarantee that if I owned the team, I'd be running it too.
Imo, compadre, running things would be hiring the best gm i could find. But being the gm as an owner is micro managing to the max. Same for coaching. And accountability would be high on my list. When i didn't like the way my coltan mines were being run, i took over the operation , fired the current gm and his associates, and proceeded to hire new ones who made the operation successful. A year later i sold them on condition my new hires keep theie jobs for one year. It was a pretty good exit strategy for me. Sandhill crane on the menu tomorrow.

His image doesn't appear in mirrors.
Yes. He's one of those.

There are a few apples under that tree.
Jones apple tree has some rather deep roots when you look at it.
Stephen loves his job, his future.
Put yourself in Stephen Jones shoes for just a moment.. think this man isnt loving everyday he wakes up?
All SJ has to do someday is just say his graces and inherit a multi billion dollar asset, with instant power and instant fame.
Theres going to have be a quite enormous storm to knock this apple tree out of the ground.
Welp when I saw Stevie listed his Highland Park home on the market about a year ago at 11 million, my first reaction was he might be just a tad overpaid based on job performance.

I am definitely strange!!!!!!!!!!!

You brought up how you think people would want to indulge their wildest fantasies by playing GM. I disagreed that people would want that, and judging from the fact that it's rare that a rich team owner insists on playing GM, I disagree completely that playing GM is what most would want. I think it's the opposite, I think most would not be so foolish to believe they could do a better job than the experts in that field, or any field. They might want to be involved in some way, sure, but not be the person responsible for personnel at every level.
Imo, the greatest asset to being a good gm is managing cap money. You need it to sign major players and play the free agency game. The cap restricts wildcatters like jerry by leveling up the financial playing field. Stephen is better than Jerry at cap management, but his free agency views are flawed. Sometimes you have to swing for the fences.

I get it, but I know me. I'd do the same thing Jerry is doing. Hopefully I'd do a better job!!! Salud, compadre!!

You mean having a GM who can't be fired or held accountable in any way doesn't work?

You guys are talking crazy.
Talking crazy or rational will not change this, so I pound my cranium against the cement curb having to somehow rationalize the thought process of remaining a lifer... Cowboys fan for life..

I get it, but most teams have misses in the draft. We're just critical of Jerry, because it's our team.
You are referring strictly to the casual fans, the ones who are not into analzying and assessing. The guys I'm referring to, both live and on the boards here, are critical of Jerry w/ facts and logic to back it up. We are critical of Jerry due to poor drafting strategy and having either a poor blueprint or no blueprint at all.

gotcha.

let me clarify.

when I say “many people” I’m not referring exclusively to the 32 owners, I’m talking about everyday people and you’re being naive if you think there’s not a bunch of regular people who would be ok looking foolish in exchange for generational wealth.

but also in regards to the other billionaire owners, 2 things. First being none of them are making money the way Jerry is, so it’s not exactly apples to apples. And second, being an owner may be their fantasy just as an investment and figurehead, Jerry’s is clearly as a football man.
I simply disagree. Most people w/ money are smart enough to hire a manager for a business they buy.

Well, you aren't, but I am! I own a couple of businesses and I don't let anyone else mess with my money. All I'm saying, if you think you are qualified and you enjoy it, you would do it. Obviously, you know your limits and you are not qualified. I respect that, but I will no longer read your dissertations since you aren't qualified!! Lol
Ranch, in all your future business success, I hope you buy the Cowboys. Even though I disagree with your model of owning the team and running it, I still believe you would be better than the present ownership. Make Jerry an offer he can’t refuse!

None of this makes a difference. Just a time killer, no matter what is discussed, no matter what ideas come out of this, it doesn't make a difference. And making a difference is not why we're here anyway, so I'm afraid I don't really understand the reasoning for the "make a difference" comment.

The average fan or person , especially kids can’t relate to ownership. It’s all a fantasy to them.

Jerry is just a figurehead to many fans. Many probably don’t even realize the rest of the league don’t operate as such.

And to Jerry’s credit he’s operated about as well as half of the league franchises who have gone about it the right way. The difference is they have a better shot of finally making the right decision.

I also don't think most people have the slightest clue how hard it is being a GM in the NFL.

The gripers and the whiners are annoying, that's a fact. I've developed a strong penchant for simply ignoring them. However, I love to read the comments from people such as RonnieT, Bobhaze, Walker, and several others. They bring so much good info to the table, a serious joy to read. It's become easier over the year to bypass the chickens clucking about stupid stuff.

cool. Didn’t say otherwise. Most doesn’t mean all, and there are many who would enjoy indulging a fantasy. But again this is about Jerry and my opinion on why he does it. All good

Well, sorry that I only provide stupid stuff. I used to try to post well thought out football comments, but the haters kept calling me a stupid HS coach. So, I just shifted gears and became more of a muse.
