Crazy Stat falls on GM

I heard a crazy stat this morning and verified it to be true.

Since 1996, there are only 4 NFC teams that have NOT made it to the Super Bowl. Yep, we are one of those. The other three are Washington, Detroit, and Minnesota. Only three haven’t made it to the conference title game.

How many times over would the GM have been fired if he were anyone else? We can keep blaming anyone we want. Players, coaches, etc... The proof is in plain sight.

The two one seed chokes bother me.

Has anyone done that? I know we were the very first in 2007.

Not sure if anyone has ever done it twice....since the current playoff format that is.

Your spot on but you’ll get an argument off quite a few on this board as to why Jerry’s not to blame.

Jerry Jones and his so called brain trust is entirely to blame for the lack of success. Entirely. That brain trust is the one that has put the team together and has burned drafts on injury prone players or burned draft picks on trading for wide receivers. This is the front office that held on to Garrett for a decade and it is the front office that drafted Jaylon Smith with a 2nd round pick. It's the front office that handed out a contract to Elliot before his rookie deal was up. It's the front office that drafted Rico Gathers. It's the front office that has discounted the Safety position for many years. The Dallas Cowboys win despite Jerry because he certainly provides no value.

I did this analysis last year when Garrett was still coach. It was depressing how inept we have been since our last Super Bowl. We are also in the bottom third of the league in playoff appearances and playoff wins over that same period.

We have literally been one of the worst franchises the last two decades if you go by playoff appearances and playoff successes. Homers like to point out silly things like how we won 12 and 13 games under Garrett in two seasons and 13 wins under Phillips but the reality is that for the vast majority of the last 20 or so years, we have been an inept franchise.

And there has been only ONE PERSON who has remained consistent throughout these 20 years of failure. Jerry.

He's too ignorant, egotistical and maybe stupid to realize he's the problem and that if he swallowed his pride years ago and brought in real football people to run the football operations - FAs, draft, hiring of coaches - there's a pretty good chance we'd have been more successful than we have been.

For him, it's not enough to simply be the owner of the SB winning franchise. He wants to be the guy who gets credit for the win. He wants to be seen as the football mind that built the SB champ. He simply can't fathom someone else building him a SB winning roster and getting more credit than him for it.

Ah yes.

The Lions, Commanders, and Vikings, perfect organizations to model yourself after. They go along well with the other model franchise mentioned today, the Jaguars.

We have a GM who's too focused on pleasing people he personally likes. It also doesn't help when said GM is also the owner and showrunner.

I honestly can't see us winning another SB while Jerry is alive.

And yet our success rate over the last two decades is right in line with the Lions, Commanders and Vikings. So maybe we should do something different than we are doing now, right?

No. There are a few referees that deserve some of the “credit” as well.

Just NFC? The Giants did it in 2008. Packers in 2011. And Atlanta did it one of those years in between. But no team twice since they went to 12 playoff teams.
