Will Zack Martin be back this season?

It will probably depend on what their record is when he is able to play...3-10....no , he should take a sit and heal properly. If this was a reaggravation then it means he wasn't fully healed last time. He is your best OL so bring him back next year with Tyron, Collins, Biadasz. With their luck, he may be pressed into duty again when another lineman gets hurt.

Piss ant coaches don't have any say.
I'm not sure how it was for you guys in Texas but since concussions have become a major part of football, it seems like medical and administration has all of the say in whether or not a kid can play. And they are very much risk aversive.

When I played, the Head Coach told you whether or not you were okay to play, and you were almost always okay to play. Bud Kilmer style.

I get that, but Im assuming the training staff says he can play although he may not be 100%. At that point MM says lets go. Would ownership veto the head coach? Hell, Jerry wants to win now as badly as anyone. Maybe Stephen steps in and says no let him recover to 100%. Its tought for me to anticipate what our crazy FO will do.
The dynamic in Dallas is the medical staff tells Jerry (as "GM") and Garrett/McCarthy. If the medical staff doesn't outright rule the player out and if it's a named-player, Jerry decides. If it's roster guy 25-53, Garrett/McCarthy decides. If it's a big enough named player (Zack, Dak, Zeke, etc), then Jerry asked the player if he wants to go or not and 99% of players are going to say yes. Dak probably should not have played Week 17 last year. The team didn't even officially list the injury for that game, but you could tell Dak's shoulder and throws were not right.

I see no reason to bring him back this season unless 1) he is fully healthy and 2) the Cowboys somehow win a few games and have a chance at the playoffs.

Even then, I would not bring him back personally.

He is way too important to the future of the team to risk a more serious injury playing a position he will not be playing after this year.

Cannot be more right here. Let the guy get better. This season is not worth anyone coming back from...well...let's just say it, a mosquito bite. This season, I'd say anyone "good" should go on IR with that symptom or worse.

I wouldn't. Let the depth get the snaps. Maybe they learn something.
Good way to find out what you have in Connor McGovern (age 23), Tyler Biadasz (age 23) , Brandon Knight (age 23), and Terence Steele (age 23).

I'd even see what Isaac Alarcon (age 22) has, but I haven't heard a single report on how he's doing in practice so no clue if he's ready to play or not.

A "swing tackle" is so important, especially with Tyron Smith's history, but they are paying Cameron Erving $2.5M in that role. If they can get that insurance from Brandon Knight, who will make around $850k next season, that's close to $1.6M that can go towards upgrading the defense.

The whole offense falls apart without him at this point. In particular Zeke and the run game.

I think we could be not horrible with Ervin back. Williams, Looney, and McGovern make a pretty decent interior oline. Weak, but not horrible.

But Steele is an anchor. Can't afford him on an oline struggling to be ok.

For me, it's not about tanking or giving up. I played sports most of my life and I fully believe you should play to win, period.

However, given the Cowboys have only won 3 games and only have 5 games remaining, I see no reason to risk further injury, especially more serious injury, playing one of our best players out of position at this point.

That said, if they are going to play Martin at guard, I would be okay with bringing him back this year.

I'd guess that playing RT stressed his calf in ways his body just wasn't used to. Not as efficient as he needs to be in T moves too.

I wonder what this means for a potential Pro Bowl berth. Can't be good, but II don't think the late games would matter anyway.

The NFL site is already taking votes.

I think he will.

With Yanda and Brooks not playing this year he's a lock to make the All-pro team if he plays at least 2 more games.

He's made 1st or 2nd team for 6 straight years, I think he'll come back in order to keep the streak (GORICO platinum gurantee that he plays the Eagles and Giants game)

He's already on the ballot + he didn't have a season ending surgery so they'll elect him to play in late January with no issues.

The real deliemma is all-pro team. I think he has to play at least 2 more games to get selected, even with Yanda and Brooks out for the year.

I'm assuming you're saying there are differences between coaches even though they may have the exact same title? ...or are you saying all coaches are piss ants in the hierarchy?
They're different. Belicheat has a lot more say than most. They are not equal.

We have protocols and testing. But, when the training staff of doctor clears them, they play. The question is should Martin play when he's cleared? Hell yeah, he should and I bet he would want too.

Good luck keeping him out of the game if he is cleared to play. Guys like him want to be on the field helping their team win, no matter what their record is.

He was pretty slow moving with the calf injury, which makes me believe it wasn't a mild calf strain. He'll Likely be feeling much better in 2 weeks, but like hamstrings it's really easy to reinjure coming back too soon. Likely a 3-4 week time table, but can take a month and a half to fully recover.
