We have no defense. Duh.LOL and how has that helped the team win anything?

Aikman retired after the 2000 season and Romo didn't start until 2006 so I guess they looked for 6 years. First they tried Quincy Carter then Chad Hutchinson, then Vinnie Testaverde, then Drew Bledsoe until Romo finally took over.

Here's what's wrong with your statement. You could have said the Cowboys should have taken him with their first round pick IF, that huge word, IF Carter was picked by another team in the first round but he wasn't. So to claim that carter should have been a 1st round pick just doesn't ring true since EVERY team passed on him in the 1st round. Even at that the media was all over Jones saying he was reaching taking Carter in the second round. Most draft gurus had him rated as a later 3rd round QB.

Get well Dak...
Dak's my QB!
This is the key.. you have a good team or it doesn't matter HOW good your QB is.. Rodgers is the best QB of this generation and quite possibly the best ever.. He has ONE ring to show for it because his teams have been so horribly flawed around him. Russell Wilson isn't likely to have to be fitted for another ring because the team around HIM has crumbled.. Mahomes better hurry up and get one or two more before HIS team starts to fall apart because once his extension kicks in he's not going to be getting a lot of support either. The fallacy I rail against is that people keep holding Dak to a standard that has not been reached by any QB ever.. Every QB who has a Super Bowl ring has had a defense that held the opponents to less than 25 points a game. I think there is one exception.. maybe the 2007 Giants? and they turned the defense WAAAAY up in the playoffs as I'm sure you recall. I think they gave up like 10 ppg less in the playoffs than they had in the regular year.. Injuries maybe? The bottom line is that to blame Dak for not being able to compensate for this putrid defense simply makes no sense. There is no QB alive or dead who could have won anything with the defense that we were rolling out the first 8 games of this season. So it's not "a QB like Dak" that we need to worry about.. It's any QB.. We need to fix the defense .. period. It doesn't matter who we put at QB.. they're not winning anything if they have to score 36 ppg just to have a chance to win. Dak isn't stopping the Cowboys from building a good team.. In fact by playing for 600K/year for his first 4 years he was helping.. a lot.. What did they do with it? Unfortunately not a damn thing..
BF, ol buddy, the problem is not that Jerry, Stephen and the Cowboys have refused to address our Defense in the Draft. The majority of their picks every year has been on Defense, instead of Offense. The problem is they have drafted poorly on Defense.I would agree that we may never learn just how good Dak is, unless the Cowboys defense is lifted into one among the first five or so. For that to occur, it would take something akin to several years of highly successful defensive drafts for the Cowboys to come close to doing so. The Dallas Cowboys, under the guidance of those in the past, would be than hard pressed to accomplish that. The Dallas FO is known to concentrate their attention to shiny offensive stars, first and foremost, before the defensive side of the ball is taken into consideration. That constitutes something of a built-in problem that our defensive improvement may well continue to be something of an unlikely happening.
Aside from what I've just stated, I think Dak is a very good QB, but one prone to being beaten by an elite team with a leading QB. Whether it's due to a faulty defense, a faulty OL or something else, it seems there's always something that holds us back. To be sure, I blame that on Jerry and Stephen's poor management. It's something that persists throughout the many years of their reign and will likely continue indefinitely.
Let's see what the upcoming draft holds in store, just as we've done for so many years, hoping for their incompetence to change. Sadly, it doesn't. They'll forever continue to blindly supplement the draft with tier 3 veteran free agent acquisitions, who hold little to no hope of offering much help. I'm sorry if that seems pessimistic but unfortunately, the truth of our situation is anything but encouraging.
This is why I've made it a point to content myself with being "entertained" -- something that even Jerry claims is destined to be the standard operational procedure for NFL fans in the ongoing future. If that's his expectation, then why should we, as fans be any different? That sadly explains why so many of this team's fans have abandoned their high hopes for future SB contention. It's the new norm that Landry never would have accepted.
Evidently, Jerry and Stephen have come to accept their limitations and deal with them as something to be accepted as an ongoing reality. Of course, they'll never admit to it, as long as their egos forbid doing so. This has come to be the reality that plagues us, as Cowboys fans, like it or not.

Please zoom in to better see this lengthy graph about each Cowboys draft picks per year (2011 - 2020).
This who Dak thing is pretty funny.
Having lived through the post Aikman years where these same dumb arguments were raging as to whether Quincy was the greatest QB since Staubach, or C. Hutchison was better then Montana, or Drew Henson would be the greatest of all time, we are very lucky. We have had Romo and now Dak, two QB's who are very good, we got on later in the draft or as an UFA.
Sadly, it doesn't matter who the QB is until Jerry is gone. Mahomes would go 8-8 here.
Thanks, AC. Evidently, our gallant draft gurus need to purchase, read and absorb a book on "Drafting Defense for Dummies!"
You left out Anthony Wright, Clint Stoerner, Ryan Leaf and Drew Henson. Gotta git yer money's worth on the QB carousel.
I'm pretty sure dude was joking. But remember the Cowboys didn't have a first round pick that year. Carter WAS their first pick. Being pressed to start about two years before he was ready was probably the worst thing that ever happened to Carter. He had a decent set of tools but he needed time to both develop as an NFL passer as well as a man. He had demons which he eventually conquered but way too late to salvage his football career. I think two years in the Jones family halfway house would have done wonders for him. In the mental state he was at coming out of college there was no way in hell he was ready to handle being QB of the Dallas Cowboys. Not everybody can .. Fortunately for us.. Dak can..

Correct Bull Breathe..
We have evolved into an entertainment bunch of wanna-bees as a team.
I also have resigned myself to similar thoughts. You say it so well..I can add not much.
It is interesting though with McCarthy here.
We all screamed about Garrett and wanted change.
Well we got it.
Ain't it great?
So I have now split my loyalties b/w New Orleans and Dallas. That way I can still watch good football and enjoy it while Dallas stumbles to the finish line like a punch drunk fighter.
I will not ever dump Dallas as my investment over the years would never let me do that.
But I can reserve the right not to let blind loyalty take away of something it's taken decades to acquire. My love of hero worship in my football team.
So I post a bit less here now so as not to let the negativity overwhelm me as much. This pumping of overinflated expectations Jones does to whip up the fan base is getting old.
Now if Jerrah would suddenly decide to get Jane Slater to be GM..
I would come running back with a bouquet of red roses and a bottle of Champaign to welcome the change.
Somehow..Ms. Jones would probably frown somewhere.
Oh well..
Get well Dak...
Dak's my QB!
We have no defense. Duh.
We had a historically awful special teams and the defense was par at best.....had a defense last year and Dak led Dallas to an 8-8 record.
Oh my.Good stuff here, Redball . . . I'm not inclined to vacate this Cowboys fandom of mine, either. I've been doing this Cowboys adoration
thing about as long as any human still bearing a heartbeat and yet, I intend to trudge on indefinitely.
I, too, am posting with less frequency now, mainly because nothing of any real importance seems to attract my immediate attention.
Lately, I'm compelled to unload my frustrations at what has become of a mere fraction of the magnificent team that I fell in love with.
It seems as though it's high time for Mrs. Jones to have a bone to pick with Jerry & Son over the sloppy way they've handled things.
As I recall, Jerry has mention things in the past that she's chewed him out for. Perhaps ASAP would be an ideal time to revisit that.
At times, you'd think a verbal barrage of slings and arrows might inspire better performances from JJ. Sadly, he pays no heed.
At least, we'll eventually get the benefit of earlier draft picks than anything we've been privileged to see in decades.
Maybe we'll feel better by then! Right now, it's like a persistent case of bleeding hemorrhoids!
We had a historically awful special teams and the defense was par at best.
It's Dak or bust and who cares about team Cowboys.Oh, so now it's the special teams fault. What next, the grounds crew? The cheerleaders? The concession stands? You Dak lovers never cease to amaze me with your desperation to defend what is an average QB.
