What gives you hope?

After the last 25 years, it is clear- Jerry Jones and his front office don’t know how to build a winner. Period. It’s not even something that’s arguable. They don’t know what they are doing. The results speak for themselves. Some clear evidence:
  • Jerry’s teams in the 21st century have made the playoffs 7 times in the last 21 seasons.
  • After the great draft haul of 2016, this team hasn’t made the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years.
  • In the last 25 seasons including this one since we won a divisional playoff game, we have had 6 head coaches, 7 different OCs, and 8 different DCs. And the same GM. And 4 playoff wins.
I could go on. But my question is this- where is the hope? I’m not joking or being sarcastic. Serious question. What is the hope Cowboys fans can hang on to?
  • Is our hope pinned to believing we will get healthier next year, thus greatly improve?
  • Is our hope based on the fact we will have good draft position?
  • Is hope now based in somehow believing the Jones boys have learned something?
  • Should we forget the two decades plus of evidence that Jerry literally doesn’t know what he’s doing as GM?
I’m serious when I ask what gives you as a Cowboys fan hope for the future?

The only hope I have- two things- Having good luck and being able to acquire so much talent, it can overcome the completely clueless GM. That’s it.

reps the young guys are getting are invaluable. several are developing nicely. by the end of season, staff should have a legit assessment of who to keep and who to let go.
Don’t mean this in any way to be disrespectful- how long have you been a Cowboys fan? I ask because I’m curious if you have ever seen the Cowboys be successful? If not, I respect your commitment. If you are an older fan like me, I respect your long time commitment. Either way, anyone who stays with this team as a fan deserves kudos.

The Cowboys are my team, I don't hope for anything other than a win when we play. I followed them when they were good, then when they were nad, then when they were good, then when they were mediocre and I'm still following. What gives me hope???? Playing Cincy next week. That's all I got.

Sorry to say, I no longer have hope for the Cowboys. Been chopped up year after year buying into the promise of "this is our year". The team cannot win with the Jones family at the helm. Call it karma, call it incompetence, whatever, the data is clear. The Cowboys will always manage to beat themselves even when the competition is not good enough to do so.

I have some hope MM is going to finally convince Stephen to invest in defense. We almost never did it under the last family member politician HC who went along to keep his job. MM isn't family, is thoroughly embarrassed by this defense, and is a new voice. Stephen desperately wants to make his choice work. So he might finally be convinced that you can't get by with this bunch of scrubs on defense.

Problem is with Dak and other big contracts on offense, it's not going to leave a lot of room to add difference makers. But they can still improve over these XFL level players.

Unpopular answer- Dak gives me hope. Whether you want to pay him all that money or not is another discussion but at this point nothing but Dak gives me hope.

I’m with you. Watching poor QB play just sucks in the NFL.

to the OP, my hope is we get rid of Nolan and get better at drafting defensive players. That’s all we have.

As long as Jerry and that brain trust of his are operating I have none and I am resigned to expect that the Dallas Cowboys as a franchise has become a little more than a memory of all that was once great.

As such I have also resolved to no longer refer to the current edition of the Dallas Cowboys as the Dallas Cowboys. This is not a franchise I want to follow anymore. Done wasting my time until that geriatric loser dies.

My hope lies in bringing in a quality coaching staff. I honestly hope McCarthy is done and whoever comes in next will be a Parcells type who can get things pointed in the right direction before Jerry mucks it up.

I think we should all know by now that with the way things are run in Dallas the best one can hope for is a 12-4 team every so often that will ultimately fizzle out.

History has a way of repeating itself. The Jones organizational chart has solidified this principle.

I did not watch one play of that game last night. As a fan for over 50 years I don't ever remember doing that. I watched NCAA basketball. The Iowa hawkeyes have a nice team worth watching.

If the expectation is a Superbowl then there is no hope as long as Jerry is in the building. If we want to get back to winning the Division every few years and losing in the divisional round then getting Dak, Martin, Smith and Collins back will go a long way towards that.

I have been a fan since mid 70's. Those Steeler SB's were brutal to a youngster. The up and down 80's and then the glory days. Been around. They will always be "my team" I suppose but I am first & foremost a football fan so I can watch & appreciate good football no matter who's playing it (other than the Eagles). Since they cleaned up the league and with free agency, there aren't any teams I despise (other than Eagles. despise might be slightly too strong even for them).

I get hope that after the Rams/Browns/Ravens/etc telling you fix the middle of your defense/DC you'll finally do it. The offense has some weapons at least a few years.
