If I was jerrry I’d boot Nolan and McCarthy, then hire the new coach and let him interview Moore to decide if he wants to keep him or interview new ocs

Make an example of a few players too and get people on edge...only way things will change
I'd make moore the new hc and let him assemble his own staff. He's our only coach with a brain.

I think this is 100% him admitting they dropped the ball in FA with the defensive signings and wishing they could do that over. I'll believe he's ready to can Nolan when it happens. If it hasn't happened yet, regardless of how historically bad they've been, there is no reason to expect it will.

Why wait? If that's your decision....get it over with. I wouldn't mind seeing Kellen and George Edwards run the offense and defense....to see if there is a difference.

This sounds a lot like Jerry circa 2013- remember the infamous offseason where he promised to make everyone “uncomfortable”? Nothing changed then. They followed his offseason of discomfort with another 8-8 egg. And nothing changes now until HE starts feeling real uncomfortable for a change.

If I had to guess, it was to bring back Jeff Heath.

PS, Nolan better have his stuff packed nicely as soon as the season ends.
I am guessing he can carry all his stuff out in one box. Many predicted this would not be a long relationship.

There was no reason to hire him other than paying back a favor from the 90s. He was awful the last time he was DC, and that was 5 years ago. Coaches don't generally get better after long absences after being as bad as he was with the Falcons.

true.

hiring Nolan wasn’t about winning.

it was making sure his buddy had a good paycheck.

I like what they tried to do in FA. They addressed the right positions and tried to get the right type of players for those positions. The Garrett regime couldnt even figure out where the weaknesses were.

Ha ha and Poe clearly didnt work out, but the big FA signing was McCoy and he went down early. Aldon Smith was a good gamble and Griffin was a great attempt to really sure up the pass rush. I also like the two picks they made in the draft on defense with Diggs and Gallimore.

Marinelli basically left Nolan a bag of rotten fruit and then half of them got hurt.

Our secondary last year:

Jones, Heath, Woods, Awuzie

This year:

Thomas, Thompson, Woods, Worley

Those are like 3rd and 4th string corners compared to last year and Thompson was a backup to Heath? OUCH!!!

When Diggs was in there and Wilson we saw some improvements, but of course they got hurt too.

DT's are much worse then last year and they were bad last year. Hill was inactive last year and he was starting for the first 4 weeks. So we are down to 4th string DT's from last year? Crawford is a shadow of himself.

LVE is a injury riddled version of himself and Jaylon just sucks. AS bad as the talent was last year, this year is much much worse. Combine that with little to no continuity from injuries and 3 weeks to implement a new scheme that you dont have the right personnel for and you have the perfect storm for the worst defense in the NFL.

If you read and grasp the entire Jerry article it is more about not making such a wholesale defensive scheme change unless you have a good number of outstanding defensive players in a normal, non-pandemic season that would not curtail player practice and training.

Jerry hired the worst DC in the NFL.

you can’t make this up.

Nolan's scheme isn't what the problem is. It's the fact he's trying to run it with guys who would never have been drafted for this scheme in the first place. Rod Marinelli's front seven is WAYYY different than most any other in the league. Am I saying Nolan is a good DC? Not at all. He may very well be terrible and he isn't doing himself any favors by not being able to make these guys play at least average D. But at the same time he is at a disadvantage with this personnel group.

Are you suggesting that Nolan run last years scheme instead of his own scheme? I dont see how that makes any sense. Nolan didnt plan for all these injuries. And they probably figured that although the defense might struggle some in the beginning due to lack of time, by the 2nd half of the season they would start to come together. And regardless they would have a big leg up next season with a full year playing in the scheme already.
