...lets just hope, Nolan is gone. I'll take any new fresh approach. This season is one to forget.

Getting a new coordinator......and changing personnel from a 4-3 to a 3-4 is a big ask in one off season.....considering we have nothing that really fits in a 3-4.
Except we have so few players to fit either scheme that I'm not sure it matters. We need a massive infusion of players even if we stay with the 43. We're basically building from scratch. Lawrence is about the only guy I can think of who is pretty good and a 43 guy.

That said, I think Jerry wants the 43 because 1. that's what won in the 90s glory days and 2. it's not what Parcells ran.

Someone who can run a hybrid scheme and can tell Jerry that the NFL has moved from the 90's and that the good teams have the ability to mix up their fronts (I think MM mighy have said something similar to him in January) Someone that can tell him that being 'pigeon holed' into a 4-3 means we will miss out on good talent going forward. We need to solidify the interior of the DEF (I think he might know that) I want a quality nose tackle and 1T

Don't believe it takes more than one further off season to run a hybrid with correct personnel

Matt Patricia is the best candidate.

No to any candidate that runs a rigid 4-3

Mike Zimmer and a wildcard would be Antonio Pierce since some think Marvin Lewis would be good.

However, I think Pierce might want to be a hc in college than be a dc in NFL.

I'd have to give the nod to Marvin Lewis. His defenses were fundamentally sound, and that would be a huge upgrade in Dallas.
Probably one of the greatest DC's off all time. Hasnt worn that hat in a very long time though

I believe that he's used both the 4-3 and 3-4 at various times, but he's predominantly a 4-3 guy.
He is a hybrid guy. He is the one that popularized it. In fact, I think Nolan took over for him when he left Baltimore

Detroit is about to fire their HC.

He used to run the Pats defense.

I choose him.

Just me, but I don't trust Belichick assistants. Most have a bad track record......

However his son, Steve Belichick as gotten some praise from around the league, even from Bill. He's currently the Pats co-defensive coor.

This team is so used to playing a one gap system, where they really struggled playing more of a read and react one, even Sean Lee has had his issues. You either have to retrain several players or get rid of them all together.

And horrible in Detroit. Had 3 years to put a defense together....failed miserably.
His problem was ownership is insisting they can win with their QB.

He loses like a broken clock. It's right twice a day.

Reminds me of a team we all know well who insists they can win with a QB who can never get it done despite having 9 Pro Bowlers on his team..

Hmmmm...

I would bet Dom Capers is @ the top of MM list.....or one of Capers' pupils.

then we will just the equal of Nolan, and possibly even worse. this would be one of those times when upper management needs to put their foot down and say "no"
They would have to know due diligence history research that Capers was likely the leading decline and downfall for MM in GB.
And how it took forever for MM to finally even beginning a new DC search and replacement.
and if i'm management, i'm wanting a defensive presence on the field with the players, not stuck up there in the coaches booth.
