It's a piss poor read on his behalf but I think it's obvious what he's trying to do. He obviously thinks the RB is going to the gap that he's supposed to be covering so he spins into that gap. An Awful play but I think the question for this post is the wrong question to ask. it's obvious what he's doing but he just sucks.

Nonsense.

Especially when he's, by far, the worst of the 3, and the mistakes have been exactly the same since 2017.
Lee looks like an 70 yr old man out there. He's done. LVE out of position, as much as Jaylon. LB play is a problem......period. Just not sure why the eagerness to critique seems to exonerate the trio.

Jaylon.....why aren't you in position, even if you weren't the culprit on this play? Lamar trotted in. Jaylon, what are you doing on this play?

Well, when NFL owners decided to pay the players more than the coaches, what did they think would eventually happen? Players like Jaylon Smith and his attitude are inevitable. Once you pay a man, 30M....... He is no longer beholden to anyone......including the writer of the check.

Exactly. The money is so good it is all that matters and rightly so. I do not blame the players because it is only common sense. Winning or losing doesn't mean anything anymore. Blowing up in a contract year is the main goal. Fantasy football is the future. Rooting for a team like the Cowboys is madness. Ownership focus is not winning. Players focus is not winning. The coaches must be losing their minds.

Even if you were to be granted that point he did not play it right. Spinning, losing sight of the ball carrier and taking yourself out of the play is not how that should have been played.

Exactly. I can’t imagine any former NFLer looking at that play and say “I would have just spun and took the outside in case the ball carrier cut that way”. What MLB other than Jaylon just launches himself into the wrong gaps like that?

I have not been a Jaylon fan, but I think on this play, Jaylon made the right call personally.

He knew that if the RB ran inside, he had help with LVE, but if the RB bounced outside, he was going to gain more yardage so Jaylon spun out to fill that area.

It only looks bad because he left the area where the RB went, but if the RB had bounced outside, it would have been a good play by him.

Even if the RB did bounce outside he’d just truck Jaylon over as Jaylon would have no leverage whatsoever to tackle after spinning around like that.

Yes, all 3 are bad.

But Jaylon is by far the worst. Nobody is being exonerated by critiques of Jaylon, because he is terrible and has been terrible in the same way since he entered the league.

what the hell is Acho talking about? RB did nothing that would make a reasonable person think he was breaking outside. just a slight move\hesitation to allow his blocker to get thru the hole.

he is the one player i would seriously consider eating significant dead money just to get him off my team.

In the live thread this is when i asked what the heck was he doing. I still can not understand why he leaves the middle open.

He's avoiding collision and trying to mask it with misdirected hustle. .... he's been doing it all year.

Ok.....I'll just stick with leadership label.

Man, we've witnessed some bufoonery from the linebacker position this year, but this might take the cake. This play exemplifies the lack of confidence both Jaylon and LVE have displayed this season. Both play with a total lack of instincts and are constantly on skates.

I can't understand why they continue to put him out there. I know they watch game film on these guys or do they just re-evaluate each player after the season. This is totally awful! You could find this trashy play after each game.

Not only is that a poor read by the backer, but you have some lazy DT play as well which irritates me even more.

Woods is slow off the ball, stands straight up, and easily gets washed down into the B gap by the center who gets freed up to take on Jaylon. Minimal effort by the Center, he literally just pushes Woods down the line and out of the play.

Gallimore was the 3T. High pad level, clearly playing pass the whole way. Tries to fight back across the G into the play, but has not technique what so ever. He just tried to power his way into the play, but he had no leverage on the G and comes nowhere close.

I'm not making excuses for Jaylon, but i'm not sure Brian Urlacher in his prime could consistently stop the run with these fools at DT.
Number of tackles are a poor indicator. The worst defense in the league will always have a leading tackler, doesn’t mean much, especially when the tackles are always 5-15 yards downfield lmao.
