Of course Tyron should be back if the surgery was successful and he can be as close to 100% as possible. His cap hit isn’t even top 10 of LT’s and he’s played like a top 10 LT whenever on the field. If you can promise me, 13 games of a top 10 LT for the next 3 years I’m in.

With all that said...time to draft a LT as well. In a perfect world we could spend a 2nd round pick on a guy with upside that can play LG for a couple of years and then take over for Tyron at LT.

No question about this. Definitely yes. I'd like to eye maybe a successor in the draft, especially in a trade down situation, but Tyron is needed on this team in a big way for next year.

Heak yeah--still my favorite player.

Really hoping this surgery allows him to play out his very team friendly contract.

Still a top 5 LT when on the field.

It really had looked like he had gotten past the back problems last year.

I'm hoping he can keep playing, but this year we could get a top OT and move on. We won't always have that option - hopefully.

My inclination is to ride him til he ready for retirement. But with the high draft pick, now is one of the better times to move on.

I said YES but it’s a qualified yes. I wouldn’t just cut him. I would rather see is draft a stud LT and flip Tyron for a late first/high second round pick.

Tyron is still a very good OT in the league, and CHEAP but he’s got a lot of miles on him. He will be able to play for another year or two at a high level if he’s healthy, but I want some draft capital as salvage value on him. It’s better for us in the long run.

Worth Repeatin' ..

-The gut feeling I have with this club and Tyron is they will stretch- squeeze his remaining career (and his contract) out here as much they can, and far as they can, while having your
usual Cam Erving, Brandon Knight reserves battle-ready to go when he's out.

- we'll likely be like the Doug Free or Fredrick situation when they suddenly retire and leave us scrambling for immediate answers.

- Even If we somehow manage to draft Sewell, with Ty and LC here at OTs, we'll likely kick Sewell inside to LG, while we play tunes with what happens with Tyron within the next couple of years.
That’s probably what we will do, but I would much rather see is get a high pick out of Tyron and use it on the defense.

How long do you think that lasts (assuming it’s actually true). You can trade Tyron now while we all think he can still play or keep squeezing his career until it runs out. The Hoodie would be doing the former instead of the latter.

The crying of Tyron is one of the most annoying narratives of the entire 2000s

Tyron plays through pain in a 3 year stretch because he along with the team geninuely believe it's their window to win and all fans do it cry about him being the 3rd best LT in the NFC (fans: "uhhh he's falling apart").

What's funny is fans whine that he didn't get the surgery earlier but if he had gotten the surgery earlier and missed 1 or 1.5 seasons then those same fans would of screamed "why is he taking an elective surgery during our window to win ?" or "ohh back in my day players would just play through the pain, this generation is soft"

Now Tyron has surgery to fix the issue during the absolute perfect time to have surgery (a wash season) and fans once again are complaining that they don't want him. It's perfect because he either comes back healthier or he retires

Tyron hasn’t played a full season in years. He’s not worth the price tag IMO

He's only the 15th highest paid LT. His price tag is cheap for what you get, even if he doesn't play all 16 games ever year. Before this year he missed 3 games per year, a couple of those were late season games when he was held out due to the last game being essentially meaningless.

Always somebody out there who just has to diss some player, even one who's given, and continues to give, his all to the Cowboys...

I’m not beating him down, I want the Cowboys to win, but this is the realty. The guy isn’t available.

Can't see getting a high pick this coming year, with Tyron coming back from neck surgery. Maybe 2022 if all goes well.

Dallas can no longer depend on Tyron Smith to play a complete season, He may have surgery on his neck but his back is and always will be a problem going forward.. Dallas would be lucky to squeeze 10 games out of him a season..

If one of the two top tackles are available when Dallas is on the board, I wouldn't mind selecting one and either making Smith available for trade or defend his starting role
