1-George Edwards- Does nothing for me.
2-Marvin Lewis-Good guy, professional. Doesn't move the needle though.
3-Vic Fangio- Very good DC, 3-4 guy.
4-Matt Patrica-Also a 3-4 guy. My guess is he goes back to New England.
5-Dan Quinn- No, no, no, no
6-Wade Phillips- Ehhhh
7-Iowa State Coach - Matt Campbell? Is Fisher dumb? One, he'll be an NFL HC or a major college HC soon. Two, he's an offensive guy. Like one of the better offensive guys around. Does he mean Iowa State DC Jon Heacock? 35 years of college coaching, no NFL experience. Would be interesting.
8-Kris Richard - Really?
9-Rahiem Morris- If he doesn't get Atlanta HC job this is a sneaky good choice.
10-Lovie Smith - Better DC than HC, gets the most out of his players (as a DC).

The correct answer is Gus Bradley.
Isn't Gus Bradley another coach from Seattle, coaching tree?

Edwards certainly will be in the running for the job. Think MM is going to try to convince Jerry/Stephen that we need more of a diverse scheme then what we have played in under Marinelli. Not sure how much difference Edwards scheme is compared to the one Marinelli ran.

If he doesn't succeed in convincing them he has lost power as a result of this season

1-George Edwards-believes he is the heavy favorite as Jerry with call Zimmer about him. ----Likely choice but I hate it. Hasn't exactly elevated LB play.
2-Marvin Lewis-found out there is a Pitt connection with him and MM, both on the staff together in the 90's --been out of coaching a good while and wasn't running defense long before then,
3-Vic Fangio-Fisher said he wanted him to interview for the GB DC job in the past. --ehhh
4-Matt Patrica-he runs a similar hybrid scheme that MM likes ---my top choice.
5-Dan Quinn-from the Seattle coaching tree, similar to the Marinelli Defense --- not a terrible option if you want to go back to 4-3.
6-Wade Phillips-connection with the Jones Family, former HC. 3-4 DC --1 gap 3-4 guy who will scheme to players.
7-Iowa State Coach --lol this dude with buy out costs more than mccarthy.. not happening.
8-Kris Richard --stop. seriously. stop.
9-Rahiem Morris-interim HC with Atlanta --another 4-3 guy but at least a younger one.
10-Lovie Smith-runs the Tampa 2, Marinelli was his DC with Chicago ---forget this one too. hasnt had success in 10 years.

Bonus-Sean Lee -- not really to coordinate a defense imho. but LB coach? Yup.

Just saw a podcast with Mike Fisher speculating the top DC's to replace Mike Nolan with:

3-Vic Fangio-Fisher said he wanted him to interview for the GB DC job in the past.

I like
Edwards
Fangio
Dan Quinn
Patricia

no to Kris Richard, no to lovie smith.

Sean Lee should start as a position assistant coach......he may be smart. he may have a future as a coach, but you don't go from player, to back up player to DC.....OC will tear him a new one if he was the DC and haven't we learned already that you can't go to coordinator even with one year of coaching....moore was this super duper genuis and look how that turned out

Does Dom Capers want to be a DC again? I was surprised that he is still working.

He did have a few bad years with GB but that was mostly when Woodson left for Oakland.

if we stay with the 4-3...i wouldn't mind Quinn or Morris at all.

Patricia would be my top choice...since thats the kinda hybrid defense McCarthy wants...but i think he's goin' back to Belichick.

i still think McCarthy keeps it in house with Edwards.
as long as Mc gets to make the call.
it's his staff...should be his decision.

I believe MM and Jerry will both favor George Edwards as the heir apparent to Nolan's DC spot.

That decision would likely cause the least amount of upheaval within the Cowboys' organization.

McCarthy did all he could to favor Mike Nolan for hiring him in the past. It simply didn't work out.

Why would anyone want Gus Bradley? We already had one of the many failed former Seattle DCs.

I'm not discounting his experience but let's not bring in Wade Phillips.

He said some things as head coach that would concern me if he were DC.

Not the culture or vibe I would want in Dallas.
Care to share that thought
Personally I don’t think he’d be interested anyway but just curious

Why didn't they look this bad last year?
You can bring in the greatest defensive coordinator who ever lived and it would make no difference. It is the players. Too many times the players don't know their responsibility, are just freelancing, or are making business decision tackles. Too many players are just weak both mentally and physically.

Too many players cannot even fill their gaps. Too many players do not even know if they are playing man or zone. A defensive coordinator can't even dumb down a system for many of the current players. Even the perfect defensive call gets washed out because some knucklehead is afraid to tackle and is ankle grabbing. As a GM of another team, ask yourself who would you try to trade for on the Cowboys' defense.

The only players worth keeping are (in order): Diggs, LVE, Gregory, Gallimore, Aldon Smith, Brown, Lewis(serviceable), and Lawrence (begrudgingly since he is way overpaid for his little production).
Possible upside players worth keeping: Anae, Carter, Hamilton, Bernard, and Reggie Robinson (McClay's pet cat being the only reason).

Good luck trying to build a defense around those players.

So people really like Matt Patricia because of what he did with Belicheck? Because his defense in detroit were all terrible but hes better than Marvin Lewis? Sheesh
He needs to go back under Belichick's skirt.

His players hated him. You can't pretend to be Belichick unless, well, you are a lot like him. The landscape is littered with the failed acorns from his tree.

yeah, i like Patricia from that group. Wade second, as a DC, he has a way of getting the most
of what you give him.
wade had roster that kept getting players like Donald and some other DL that are great , a few LBs and oh yes whats his name Ramsey..thats getting the most i should hope so , id say that straight up tealnet..th new DC is doing even better with the same roster..why did the rams let him go?

I dont think wade would even consider coming back to Dallas..I wouldn't blame him..

True but this current McCarthy staff and decision has clearly raised it's ugly head to make it's mark in NFL history as among the worse ever defenses.
That comes back on the guy's staff and who made the decision to bring Mike Nolan here. ....
