As many have said....the league was different. QBs could get clobbered, WRs could get blasted, teams ran the ball more. Many times Aikman and the run game would get us out to a pretty sizable halftime lead. Emmitt and Co would then run the game out the last quarter.

Everyone that played with Aikman lauded his team-mentality. He easily could've had more yards and TDs, but there was only one stat Aikman cared about...wins.

This, when you had that OL and ES, why pass. When the D knew what was coming and still could not stop it, why change?

Sigh. Dak haters are really Dak likers just not to the tune of 20% of the cap. Five years in Aikman had two rings as signature wins versus Dak one division win. And yes we know Troy had an actual coach and not a couple marionettes. The rules were not skewed to the offense the way they are now.
Wrong.

Aikman played his first 5 seasons on a team (offense & defense, + special teams) loaded with the best talent money could buy.

Once the salary cap came into effect, it was over for Aikman and the 90s Super Bowl winning Cowboys.

FACTS.

everyone needs to remember this is team sport , Troy and Emmitt were surrounded not only by a lot of elite talent but coaches who were elite..they had plan and could carry it out much like NE and BB

you need talent and coaching to strike at the same time..

anyone thinks Dak, Romo, and Zeke coudnt have flourished on our 90s team are haters..they could have been hof players if plugged into those teams..

Different era, different rules....

Can’t imagine how long Aikmans career would have been had he played in today’s NFL

Goggle his rookie team. That was not even an average team.

No. I included those years in my thinking. That 1995 Super Bowl winning team was the first and only team for the Cowboys during the salary capped era. By then, the team had already started losing key starters from the previous 2 Super Bowls like Norton, Jr, Gogan, Stepnoski, etc. The years following after that 1995 season, much of the talent from the Super Bowl winning seasons had left, and that marked the end of the Aikman prowess.

FACT.

If you really want to know how great Aikman could've been as a passer, go watch the 94 NFC Championship. Emmitt was hurt, the OL had injuries, the field was crap, Barry Switzer was an idiot, and San Fran cheated the salary cap. We started out that game rough (three TOs), Aikman admittedly had a rough start. But he single-handedly kept us in that game....he nearly gritted out an amazing come-from-behind win that fell short thanks to a horrible no-call PI. Switzer lost it and cost us any chance by getting a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty.
