What have we learned from the 2020 season?

I've learned that the primary goal of an NFL player has changed.

The #1 goal used to be championships. Now it's all about getting that huge second contract.

Truthfully, which 8 year career would you rather have?

1. You averaged 1.5 million a year for a total of 12 million. You also started in two Super Bowls during that 8 season span.

2. You averaged 15 million a year for a total of 120 million but didn't play in a single Super Bowl

I think that when a player gets that huge second contract they become satisfied. They get complacent. They don't mean to lose intensity, I don't even think they feel it but the coaches can see it. The fans can see it.

Everybody who got a huge contract has disappointed, Zeke, La'el, Jaylon, T-Law. None have played better since signing their contract despite still being young.
.
Ironically, the only one that seems to be holding his own is Amari Cooper, the most dispensable.

This is 100% true and almost impossible to work around combined with players just not giving their all when their leader goes down like we saw after Dak went down with Injury.

For starters- All the places you have ?’s on defense.

DL- In addition I have zero confidence Trysten Hill is anything more than a decent rotation player. Aldon Smith? Another pt player who’s getting old. Essentially a So we need 1-2 more DL players.

LB? LVE and Jaylon? What happens when LVE has another injury? Jaylon has been wildly inconsistent at best. Are we 100% confident he’s a key component to our defense? Sean Lee is finished. We need another LB in other words. Maybe 2.

Secondary? Ok Diggs has shown some potential, but we aren’t keeping Awuzie and Lewis. Maybe one. No way we keep Xavier Woods. So we probably need 2 corners and a S. That’s 3 more.

OL? We cannot just sit Pat with what we have. We may need some help at LT immediately. Ty Smith is on his last prayer. What if we have another TFred type surprise? I say we may also need another OL, but at least 1.

K- Zuerline is ok. But he’s old and he has been inconsistent of late. Are we going to just assume he’s ok? I think we need an upgrade.

That doesn’t sound like a team 1-3 players away.

- I'll go with a 34 yr old FG kicker that best suits the special teams coach,.. until he flat cannot kick anymore and losing Brett Maurer like games for us. That'll be a coaches call.

DEFENSIVE LINE
- Aldon Smith is purely a stopgap (and I really have my questions as a starter) – Gregory has more ability and more years to contribute – but that wouldn’t make me bypass a potential edge rusher
further in the draft -in according to my draft value board.
Armstrong is JAG, and I just can’t get excited about his future here. and these current coaches have ruined Anae’s rookie year, so he’ll be rookie-like next year. They see him as more of a project imo.

- I don’t see Hill as you do, when I see some signs that he was indeed flashing and coming on, showing penetration ability before he got knee-torn and IR’ed.
Who knows what Trysten would've been like at season's end if not injured.
Though 2021 will take a recovering year, I’m down for waiting for him after many here were eager and aiming to cut him immediately.
I’ll let Hill compete with Gallimore for the 3 tech. (whom I’m questioning how the coaches are trying to play him at DT) I’m not ready to move out away on Hill or Gallimore unless I’m convinced
I’m not seeing anything promising.

- What’s key is for young guys is you want to see them flash, you want to see some semblance of ability and be placed by coaches to have a fair chance of showing some ability.
But you have to have the right coaches in place to give them the best chances.

-The only thing positive coming from this Tomsula staff is that he did not give up on Hill like Marinelli was prepared on his way to do, and that played a big key in Hill starting to emerge.

1 tech ? We vastly need productive buklier 1 techs. I don’t see anything from A. Woods to be excited about.
Club will count on Dlaw who still struggles with injuries yearly and comes up with pedestrian sack numbers. Solid all around DE but not a difference maker, not a war daddy imo.

- BTW, what will team do if Tyron Smith suddenly does a Fredrick sudden retirement post- draft ? ..They'll likely kick Conner Williams out to LT while McGovern inherits the LG role.
- the FG kicker Zuerline ? that's a coach's call on a guy that he feels most familiar and comfortable with, so long as he's not single handedly Brett Maurer'ing losing games for us.
When that does - up to coaches to immediately address and make that move to upgrade - not wait like Garrett at season's end to finally make a move.

LINEBACKERS
– Jaylon will never let us be a better team but I fear the Jones will go down insisting he is a cornerstone. They’ll use the 2nd leading tackler in NFL -to which notable NFL guys know that much of those tackles are on his side of the ball.
And he offers you nuthin ‘ in coverage or blitzing. Should we decide on Micah Parson or Penn State’s or Missouri’s Nick Bolton , it’s time to move on Jaylon. But I have to see it to believe it.

-LVE’s durability worries me and I’m questioning if he’s too easily fooled and overreactive, but could that be coached up? Under Kris Richard 1st year, he looked like an impact LB, I’ll await mass upgrade in DL and a much better DC/LB coach with LVE.

-Lee’s done. And it’s wait to see if the new DC will want a strongside LB in his base to better help vs run. Injury prone Thomas, and project Francis are mere bargain depth guys;
Gifford is injury prone JAG. Justin is strictly SP.

SECONDARY – Diggs and Wilson are a start.
- Donovan may prove just complementary or he could be emerging as a hidden gem star. Its been several eventual guys as NFL safeties who’ve broken out this way.
Regardless, at least he is showing us big play ability in extended playing time, from a guy that is very short ,limited on game experience.
With Right coach, right scheme, I think he shows potential signs that he could be solid starter at SS. But with this DC, DB coaches this scheme, they don’t, he won't.

- Diggs needs to be a different, better scheme that best suits him too. I don't like him in Lester Hayes bump n run man press coverage that asks him to cover 50-60 yds constantly with no safety help.

- Brown is decent and more effective as a slot CB, but not a guy I want starting outside but this management loves him. Like Jaylon, that’s gonna be a problem, imo.
Awuzie and Lewis will likely leave via FA. We’ll see both draftees and bargain DBs here.

The amount of negativity Jerry Jones has received this season seems excessive to me.
What other owner or GM of any sports franchise insists on being a celebrity and feeding his ego? Does he not invite the negative criticism with his spotlight seeking annoying personality?

What other owner/GM tries so hard to sell his team to the public? And actually insults the intelligence of the knowledgeable football fans within that public?

What other owner/GM lavishes praise on his players, because he picked them, and even makes excuses for them?

What other GM has been at it 31 years and still hasn't got the hang of it?

And, what other owner puts his comfort level with a HC ahead of all the real requirements of the job?

I did. I don’t think we need to replace him either. I’m just saying the S position still needs a good draft pick to solidify.
You are right. Wilson looks to be a good SS type given he excels playing downhill against the run and has a nose the ball/causing turnovers.
Not a guy you want playing deep. Barry Church-like? Need that rangy, instictive free safety that can handle coverage well.
After the starters, still need some decent depth there, too, IMO.
Do ya want to be an injury away from more Darian Thompson?
