Did CeeDee Lamb make mistake picking up ball on onside kick?

Quite frankly, if a ball is up in the air you are better off just trying to catch it. I don't know how many times I have seen people try to jump on top of a moving ball and push it away accidentally.

If FatMike's point is that CeeDee should have caught it and then fallen to the ground, then maybe but you are basically worried about him running with it and fumbling the ball which is an extremely rare event.

He was hoping he would fumble and we lose to get a higher draft pick.

The Cowboys don't know how to fumble when it comes to tanking. The last two opponents Dallas has created four turnovers against opponent, coincidence??

I'm sure they teach to fall on it and then just run the clock out.
I'm sure some old school coaches would have been mad at TP for scoring when he did.
3:40 left and you can kill game off without giving up more possessions.
But this is modern football and teams/players are more aggressive.

Lamb was supposed to fall on the ball instead of fielding it and returning it for a TD. He said he heard it from the coaches when he got back to the sideline. No one was mad or anything but Mcarthey said that is something that will be discussed during team meetings. I didn't see anything wrong with what he done but that is just me. What do you think? I know they are taught to fall on the ball and end the game since anything can happen if you return it.....

It's good to see MM talking to players in Realtime. Yes, in this case it was a good mistake. I just sure wish MM was a defensive minded coach.

It's hard to fall on a ball that's bounced into your arms. Plus he was near the sidelines . Can't imagine this became public.

Normally, you'd grab it and go to the ground because a bunch of players are charging into you. But he saw that no one was close to him and took off, so I don't think the conversation was anything more than reminding him that normally, you go to the ground with that because you don't want to risk losing the ball, but ...

Yes, CD violated coaching advice but made the most of his boo-boo, with an on-sides kick return for a TD. It was epic!

This is just a disconnect between "situational football" and just "playing football".

The situation called for falling on it. CeeDee was playing football and playing to win. No shame in that .... (unless he fumbles)

Exactly, I think some here are taking "falling on the ball" too literally.

...opportunity knocks on that play. I actually feel Cee Dee was cemented with Dallas for the next 8 yrs. The Jones know that's hell of quality player.

Teaching moment....it worked out.....just hope Cee Dee isn't rolling his eyes when a coach is talking about teaching.....after what we've seen with ST.

You get a chance to score, you score.

This team has been so dreadful this season. I see nothing wrong with a few bright spots. Lamb being one of them. And, D. Wilson.
