played on our first 2 super bowl teams.

Just posted this in the Off-Topic Zone. I hadn't seen this. My bad.

2 side notes.

He once punted a ball 84 yards. It's the longest punt in team history, and is a record that still stands today.

He wore the number 12. Until a fellow by the Staubach arrived.

When I was a kid I had a Ron Widby football card that showed his leg extension follow through during a punt. His knee was about an inch from his face mask. Dude was long and wiry and could boom the ball. His punts were highly audible even on TV.

According to what I've read, he wore #12 as a rookie, but gave up the number when Roger got there.

I certainly don't recall him ever wearing #12 but I was still a teenager then.

Greg, look at the photo with the original post and article. It shows RW in his rookie season wearing #12. I believe that was 1968, the year before Roger joined the Cowboys. In 69, Roger’s rookie year, Widby switched to #10.
