It was 1991. A young Troy Aikman is injured in the 12th game of the season and will miss the rest of the reg season. The Cowboys at that time were in the thick of the playoff race and could ill afford losing their starting QB. When Aikman went down , the Cowboys were 7-5, fighting for a wild card spot in the playoffs. It looked somewhat bleak.

BUT...we had an excellent backup QB named Steve Beuerlein, who led the Cowboys to 4 straight wins, clinching a WC playoff spot. Even led them to a wild card playoff win against Chicago in the playoffs. The dream ended in Det though in a divisional round loss.

Believe it or not, at that juncture, some Cowboys fans were calling for Aikman to be traded and Beurlein to be named the starter in ‘92. Jimmy Johnson knew better. Beuerlein was an excellent QB in smaller doses, but not for big doses. The rest of his career, he was what time showed he was. A decent starter, who can win you some games.

Kind of like Andy Dalton.

Hey, I like Andy Dalton and I’m not in any way meaning to disrespect him. And I’m not saying Dak is Troy Aikman But Dalton’s not the future here. He’s a solid mid-level type starter that is going to make some good money next year as the starter for another team. His price tag will be too high for us to keep him as a backup and unless I’m dead wrong (which I very well could be!) I think Dak will be signed to a 4-5 year deal this offseason.

Andy Dalton is the 2020 version of Steve Beuerlein.

He will turn out to be our Jim Plunkett...

Which version of Jim Plunkett? There were several, and not all were good. He was 72-72 in his career as a starter and threw 164 TDs and 194 INTs.

He did have a good run with the raiders from 80-82, winning 8 playoff games. But those were great raider teams. He was average most of the time.

Wrap yourself around this version as with a couple of pieces on defense were off to the big dance!

Plunkett led the Raiders to a victory in Super Bowl XVIII following the 1983 season before retiring in 1988. He is the only quarterback to start and win two Super Bowls

Dalton's price tag will definatley be too high as a backup next year...but not as a starter and that's the rub, i have never said that i think Dalton is a better QB than Dak ( i have said i think he throws a better ball) but overall he is not a better QB than Dak, but i think Dalton wins as many games with our team as Dak can and if that's the case then for the money sign the guy who will save you 10M per season (just an estimate of Dalton's cost vs Dak) and put that saved money to good use elsewhere

No distaste just reality.
You decide what part of the Cowboy world you wanna belong to?
I just want to win. That’s where we agree brother. I’m not a Dak worshipper. I just honestly believe he gives us a better chance to win long term.

I could certainly be wrong. All I know is you better have a better than average QB to win a championship these days. I think Dak can do that. But I understand your view. Just disagree. But hey we can certainly agree that we want the Cowboys to win some playoff games for a change.

I also never thought for a split second (although others might have) that Beurerlein was even close to being in the same league as Aikman, but i think Dalton and Dak are alot closer talent wise than people think

Can't win with Prescott as his talents won't allow for it.
Yes, it's a cap league so you get the idea here.
Add the injury so ya Dalton is the only choice that makes sense.
Now if you want fantasy scenarios and excuses hit up the Dak-Trolls they make Alice in wonderland look like a documentary on Covid.

Pap, I don’t think either of us can have a religious conversion this evening to change minds, lol. I’m not trying to change your mind.

Two seasons out of 18 where he only won half of his games and had more picks 198 than TD 164 which means he had a lot more bad years than those two go ones. You've proved how bad you are at assessing QB since you're a Prescott hater. Oh and the year after winning Super Bowl XVIII he was a backup QB.
