Team tank. We’ve been defeated

My response directly contradicts your opinion and borrows from several other previous Zone posters shared ideas regarding to tank or not.

I see these as empty wins. I also see an extreme roster turnover especially with regard to defensive personnel.

Combine that with a new DC(and maybe even OC too) and most likely new defensive position coaches and you basically get winning for the here and now but whose ultimate outcome will not end in a SB win.

So with all this new found temporary improvement I am just wondering how winnng one game at a time now benefits this team next year when half of the players here now and coaching staff will not be here next year?

Or is this temporary feel good with players and coaches that wont be here more beneficial than higher picks in each round?

Sorry, I totally disagree.

Just my opinion.
Ok man, if you don’t see it the same way, that’s all good. I’m not sure how it wouldn’t be bad news for the team to not be responding to the coaching, and the coaches to not be getting better. The team not improving and the team not getting more discipline seem like a bad sign for the future to me.

However, I do get how a higher pick helps the talent level though, so I do get where you’re coming from there. I’m just glad the team is showing much improvement.

First of all, teams never tank on purpose because coaches and players have their jobs riding on these games. Tanking is just what fans talk about when their team sucks and they have nothing else to look forward to but the draft. Go ask the Jets about tanking if you dont believe me.

Now lucky for Dallas the East was so bad this year that nobody was really out of the hunt. In fact, three of the four teams are still alive for the division title going into week 17. You dont tank when you still have a shot at the division, that would be monumentally stupid. But like I said, no team tanks its just fans that talk about tanking.

This has been covered as nausium .
The Jets are the Jets. They will do Jet things.
There's a reason the worse teams get the higher draft slots.
We went from 3-13 to 13- in one year with high draft picks.
Tell me again how many playoff wins we have in the last 25 years. Don’t cherry pick one season to make your weak point. I can go beyond the Jets if you want. Let’s try Cleveland. Are you prepared to tank far as many years as Cleveland sucked to get those high draft picks to finally have a somewhat decent team?

Its time to face reality my friend. You said the Jets are the Jets and they will do Jet things. Guess what, the the Cowboys are the Cowboys and they will do Cowboy things, so you might as well just sit back and cheer them on. Tanking just does not work in the NFL.

So......getting a high draft pick was the goal and a division title and a playoff berth is the consolation prize?

Call it absurd but the Cowboys didn't just win three in a row...they steadily improved and are now peaking at precisely the right time.

Garbage time stats don’t count

Not true. The higher you pick in each round can better your team tremendously.
sorry busts happen all over the draft as does finding good to even elite players, rogers late first, brady 6th round, mahomes ad other 10-15 range , tj watt late first Donald mid first, we got lamb at what 17 etc etc i could go on all day..you dont need to be top 5 to get good player or there would only be one round..what ridiculous world do you live in that you ignore Busts in the top 5 on regular basis and only truly horrible teams typically pick that high on regulars basis, how is it most of the 32 teams stay loaded with talent found all over the draft..??

Clevelands perfect example they have been horrible for 15years and had 50 high first round picks some years 2 and a few 3 first rounders and still have not arrived at anything special. seriously..jets been bad for while , Jags one good year and truly bad the rest with many high draft [pics they somehow keep staying up there many many years

I realize its nice to have top draft picks especially with our needs on defense but its not necessary of you scout and choose the best payers..

im not arguing that having better draft picks is bad but its absolutely not necessary to build teams rosters with talent..

BTW our glaring needs are all on defense this year and truly no absolute locks in the top 10 for defense this year, so we are picking in a good spot for our needs and BPA..

also all those truly worried i see some finds this season that will only improve NeXT year like Hill will improve , Gallimore looks solid will improve, a 16 game season for Gregory, Wilson(s), Diggs, etc etc

Hilarious "fans" actually want the team to lose.
right after looking around the league and see the jest and cinci not tank, last year MIA pushing hard at the end and still they think tanking is true thing..its not its only used by fans rooting for their bad teams to be first in the draft..

Fair enough. Difference of opinion. No worries.

No worries. This draft had zero premium blue chip defensive prospects. We would be reaching for a good pick up on D in the top 5.

Team tank was always going to disappoint as outside of landing a QB or the top OT, we were not going to be getting true value there.

KOing Philly, with a chance to KO Garrett and the NYG, followed by watching the WFT choke away the division is an incredible, rare triple play.

We win the division and simultaneously taste all our rivals bitter tears.

The hope was to get a haul in a trade down but now they'll just have to stay and pick. The value should be fine though.

Yah... I hear you. A trade down if a QB was on the board would have provided a nice haul.

Can't read too much into the win yesterday, Eagles were missing several of their better players starting the game, then lost Cox early. Gallup, Lamb and Cooper feasted on a weak secondary and Dalton had lots of time in the pocket.
Dallas defense gave up 477 yards, and the Eagles got an unfortunate fumble call late in the game, if they had scored (yeah I know, ifs and buts...) on that drive who knows what would have happened? And Philly had several really dumb penalties that killed drives. Don't be fooled by the final score.

And Dallas is now picking 11th in the draft, instead of a projected 5 or so just a couple of weeks ago, to some that's just awful.

But looking at PFF's draft rankings, after Lawrence (assuming he becomes the next Tom Brady as some are saying), Fields and Parsons nobody there is not such a supposed sure fire pick that even if Dallas got the no. 6 or so pick that they'd go from an also ran to top SB contender. Getting one top player in the first 37 isn't going to fix what ails this team, even assuming McCarthy, Moore and either Nolan or another new dc are up to the coaching task.

So rest easy folks, enjoy the wins and know that you still have the possibility to get a top-10 pick, do some draft and/or player trades and pick up several really good players, which if they pan out will help this team measurably...

I think that the idea of tanking is real, there's just no evidence of it happening, in my opinion. And if there were signs, it would most likely be benching players for less talented. I can't imagine there being any reason for this team because they're playing better; something to build on.

We can't change who's on our schedule. I couldn't care less what team we beat or how bad they are. Winning is winning and it's something to build on.

So happy you’re miserable over a Cowboys win. You’re on the Losers team.
@Rockport live it up buddy. I still hope we draft a QB and save 40 million of cap space.
This will make Jerry & screwed up FO so happy.. right in his wheelhouse. 7-9 to 9-7, competing for a playoff spot in the final regular season game. I have been posting about this narrative for years. Jerry and the quest for mediocrity. It's been the same story for the past 26 years.
Most fans have forgotten what it means to be actually good and try to win a couple playoff games. One generation of Cowboys fans lost I guess we are the on the brink of starting another run.
Wins are great no doubt, but best case scenario we make the playoffs and win a game like the 2010 Seahawks? I hope we draft a Wilson type in the third round..
This paying Dak 40 per year will get you nothing but pain. Look at Goff and Wentz, reality is staring this team in the mirror but the FO needs to wake up.

Tell me exactly how many Super Bowl championships have we had in the last 25 years?
The whole draft system is set up to where the worse teams drafts the highest in order for the chance to improve their team. What the teams do with those draft picks is on the player and the team.
The Cowboys went from 3-13 to 13-3 in one draft class.
