it seems weird to me that broadcasters and cable/satellite providers haven't found a way to broadcast sports in 4K. Every TV you buy now is 4K and it would be a reason for a lot of people to keep a cable/satellite subscription. Why is ESPN 4K not a thing?

I dont like it. It was reminds me when i bought a top notch plasma tv the year before they stopped making them and were only producing LCD's. The plasma picture was clear, realistic, and looked great. All the LCD's looked cartoonish. I couldn't understand why they were stopping plasma, and going with LCD's

Because it was an extreme close up of one player with the entire background out of focus.

I would fire whoever thought that was a good idea. You actually saw less of the celebrations.

it’s fine when there’s barely anyone in the stands. Gives the illusion of stadium not being empty but I don’t even think it was as much about good cameras as it was just adjusting depth of field. I have way more issues with one networks choice to use direct overhead goal line shots on goal line running plays. That stuff sucks

News has been using DSLR cameras for interview shots for years. The depth of field is fantastic, and resolution really pops. For use in a steadi-cam, it will take some getting used to, as the lens is more difficult to adjust when you are shooting moving video. When done right, it looks outstanding.

The amount of bandwidth necessary to deliver UHD to homes is staggering. They would literally have to turn other services off to make it work.

It was cool. If you didn't think it was at the very least cool, then there is a 99% chance that you return your steak at every restaurant you eat at for it not being cooked enough or too much.

Those shots looked great, but had little depth. Anyone else notice that Fox seemed to fall in love with those shots while rarely showing important replays?

Fox has made a disturbing habit of showing everything but replays the last couple of months.

It's like the director in the truck has to make sure he uses every camera that he has between every play, we see close ups of players everywhere, on the field and off, but they forget to show the actual replay. Very frustrating.

All they did was add depth of field using the aperture on the camera to make the background blur.

I do the same thing when taking screenshots while i play Skyrim, makes for some really cool images. :)

The first shot, that's what I was wondering for a couple of seconds. Once I got used to it, I thought it was pretty cool.
They are obviously dialing in some new tech.

Watch next year..

they will hookup HD cams on players like the cops use.

We will see the game from the inside out.

That will be cool watching the play at ground level and using the above overhead shots in a split screen.

We will soon have a half dozen cameras shooting and be able to switch from offense and defense on your cellphone in realtime.

We will be producing our own broadcasts based on who we want to see play.

That will be damned fine.
