This won't be popular, but Steele and Knight.
If someone had told me that they would have been our starting Ts for the majority of the season I would have predicted that this offense would have been dead in the water. They are far from world-beaters, but they have done a decent job.
If you look at what was expected of a player Steele has been better than you would expect
I expected knight to continue his growth
Schultz exceeded my expectations
Biadasz looked good in limited time
Diggs played well for a rookie

How about Amari Cooper? 86/1073/5 slash line so far despite having Gallup & Lamb taking targets, Dak going down and being on the receiving side of balls from Garrett Gilbert & Ben Dinucci, and still has a game to go.
My answer.
Not to mention post big contract. Most yards in his career despite it all

Shultz is the clear winner. He never looked like a legit TE in his backup role. He wasn’t an efficient blocker, and he showed nothing as a receiver. This year he has developed into a solid blocker, a guy who not only finds the open spaces, but also can run the seam, and his hands have been stellar.

just proves that some guys need the actual game experience to develop.

Definitely Shultz. He should start over Jarwin first day of TC
...I'd say Shultz too, but open to competition if Jarwin is fully recovered......but we could be with two young TEs.

...but what happens if JWitt returns?

Dak was on a record-breaking pace until he was injured. I did not expect that from him.

For me it has to be Dalton Schultz.

I did not think he was bad by any means before this year, but when he had a chance to play in previous seasons, it always seemed like he was just a placeholder for the next tight-end draft pick, especially with the emergence of Blake Jarwin.

Schultz has made some really good plays as a receiver this season, but what has really surprised me is his blocking ability.

He has done a great job of not only blocking at the line but also blocking down field to help extend plays.

We all noticed that Jason Witten had lost a step in his last few years here, but the biggest change was the decline in his blocking skills during the 2017 season before he temporarily retired, and when he came back in 2019, they were not any better.

Seeing what Schultz has done this year both receiving and especially with blocking, it just reinforces the idea that you need to give the younger players more time on the field to really see what you have with them.

Which player has performed better than you expected?

There was some doubt that Schultz would even make the team in camp. His respectable play should count as a big surprise, though to be realistic he has a very easy row to hoe with the skill players above him.

Noah Brown is another guy on the bubble of being cut. First year he's looked like an NFL WR.

I'll put my vote in for Williams. He's actually a *good* LG now. I didn't think he was that bad before, but seeing such progress on an oline with little to help him out shows that he's a real player now. Always just a younger olineman growing into his body and strength. Still only 23 this year.

I'd say Shultz and to some extent Diggs. Even though I figured our TE would benefit from the attention given to our WRs. I just didn't think it would be him.

One vote for Conner McGovern. He gets better each week. Even WIP in Philadelphia said Hargreaves and Malik Jackson were INVISIBLE.

This is a surprising one, but I may agree. Some of it has to do with my very low opinion coming into the year, but I don't find myself cussing him several times each game. With health, our o-line could get back to being a major strength next year and have some nice depth too.

I don't think him and MM are fond of each other it sounded like the meeting with him becoming a coach didn't go well

zeke, with everything he’s faced through COVID, admitting he was “low key faded” when he was supposed to be quarantining and then having to deal with the possible SI article, no Dak to carry him, and this non top 10 O line has had to be the toughest thing he’s ever faced through his high school, college, and NFL career yet he’s still managed to get a paltry 4.1 ypc.

I just can’t get over how much he’s accomplished in the face of all this adversity. A job....done zeke

Which ONE Cowboys player has performed better than you expected this season?

While you can post about anyone on the Cowboys you want, remember to focus on that "better than you expected" part of the question :D
Sgt. Shultz!!!!!

Biadasz. Never thought he would even play and when he did, he was better than solid.

I'm going to go with Gregory because I did not it believe he would be consistent. Frankly, I'm still suspicious but so far he has been a force to reckon with.
