I have no issues with Chris Jones but Niswander is going out and showing he is the better punter. He gets good hang time and has a bigger leg. Nothing personal just business.
The business of winning with the best players. I like Jones, but his injury did him in. Cowboys should have sat him with the original injury and let him heal to give him a chance. But, Niswander looks better overall.

Gutting through injuries is great and all, but it doesn't solve the root cause. Guys like Lee and Tyron have tried to gut things out but it all comes back to you in the end.

Niswander is younger, cheaper and has shown he can do the job. Counting $500k in dead cap is small potatoes considering how much field position you can lose through poor ST's.

The fact that Jones went unchallenged this year is a microcosm off how bad this front office is

Chris Jones' best punting avg was 45.9 in 2016 with a 41.2 net avg. His best net avg was 42.5 in 2015 with a 45.2 avg per punt. He no longer can put up those numbers.

Niswander's avg is 46.9 with a 43.1 net avg.

Chris Jones in his best years was very good at getting inside the opponents 20. (34 in 2017) But he had dropped off to 17 and 18 the last two seasons and only 5 this year. Niswander only has 9 this year but he seems to be showing improvement.

Bring everyone in and let them compete for the job.

It is foolish to pick someone and go with it before the season even starts.

Use your camp wisely...it is designed not only to get players ready, but to also give them a venue to compete for starting positions.

Keeping an ineffective injured player around that was clearly a detriment to the team is bad football. Most teams don’t keep a player like that around.

I can't speak to the reason why they made the decisions they did in regards to Jones.

I know that being a punter and kicker being expected to perform with those injuries is way too much to ask, and the brain trust who thought that trotting out an injured Jones instead of a healthy journeyman punter was going to be good for the field position game needs to have their head examined.

Punting is a violent motion on the leg and torso albeit a simple move. If you can't kick to the a league standard, and we aren't talking Shane Lechler or Reggie Roby standard, but just a league average you need to get another punter.

Jones was not able to kick to an average standard, and his hernia was an obvious reason.

Just deal with the salary cap issue of having two punters on the payroll and move on.

Niswander needs to be here next year.

Release Chris Jones and free up $2 million in cap space. Niswander has earned the job.

In 5 games:
20 - punts
Long - 58 yards
Average - 46.8 yards
Net - 44 yards
Inside 20 - 9

2m... seriously?..... enjoy retirement!

That last stat is impressive.
