Would you pick up LVE 5th year option?

How about getting some real defensive tackles before passing judgement? Plus....he's always having to cover for that freelancing moron #54 that can't run...

Just saying....

I wouldn't pick it up. At this point we should be able to get a contract done cheaper. Giving him the 5th year option costs more, and you are giving him an extra year to potentially play himself into an even bigger contract. If we could get a contract in the range of $5 million a year for 3 years, that is a better situation than the 5th year option. Otherwise I would let him test free agency.

Has he had a season where he hasn't missed multiple games in a row? We've seen this movie before and he's not quite the player Sean Lee was...He'll probably remain healthy next year and Jethro and Spaulding will sign him to a multi-year deal though and he'll get banged up every year after. Typical Cowboys thing to happen.

I don't have enough information about his medical prognosis to make a choice here.
I like LVE, but he has not looked nearly as good as he did his first season and he cannot seem to stay healthy.

I am not saying no, but I would have to know a lot more about his health (and we will never get that as fans) before I would say yes.

Easy call. No 5th year option or extension, draft a stud LB this off season to anchor the defense for the foreseeable future.

I can see arguments either way, but the injuries are a major concern. He is one hit to the neck away from retirement.

I can live with the 5th year option because it's only 1 year. But a 2nd contract? I don't think so. Too risky IMO.
No.....neither. Cut #54 ASAP while you're at it.

Yep, and use the draft to grab his replacement if he can't stay healthy next year.

Dudes expose themselves hating on Jaylon every week but believe in LVE. they both have been bad past TWO years.

Jaylon has been observably increasingly physically limited from early 2019. He regressed physically. There's an explanation.
LVE, I can't make sense of a great season from a rookie with very limited football experience, only to tank the next couple of seasons. His physical problem, AFAIK, is that he may *break*, not that he is *broken*.

Too fragile. Many teams had that very concern before he was even drafted.

. However we can pick up the option and then change our minds without penalty. So i guess it makes sense to say yes.

Yea. Only get screwed if he's injured going into year 5.

Player options are generally for guys who have outperformed their draft slot.
They are mostly a placeholder to a long-term extension.

https://www.profootballrumors.com/2020/05/2021-nfl-fifth-year-option-tracker

Here's where Gil breaks them all down:
And Landry Hat should have included the link but that site is pure basura so not shocking.
https://www.nfl.com/news/weighing-fifth-year-options-for-2018-nfl-draft-s-first-rounders

It appears LB is calculated with OLB/EDGE mixed in and thus is a terrible deal and even more expensive in the last calculation than DE.
2017 R1 option year costs
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...017-first-round-pick-decisions-for-each-team/

Position 1st 10 Picks Picks 11-32
Cornerback $14,197,000 $10,244,000
Defensive End $15,184,000 $10,051,000
Defensive Tackle $13,143,000 $8,255,000
Linebacker $13,737,000 $10,089,000
Offensive Line $13,505,000 $11,064,000
Punter/Kicker $4,559,000 $3,519,000
Quarterback $24,837,000 $17,540,000
Running Back $8,483,000 $5,204,000
Safety $9,860,000 $6,770,000
Tight End $9,117,000 $6,013,000
Wide Receiver $15,680,000 $10,926,000

So under those terms those zero way I'd even consider LVE for 5th year option.
