If I could have one Cowboys-related wish come true above all others, it would be to see Jaylon “king of shameless self promotion” Smith released.

But who’s going to take his place?

Joe Thomas... Joe Dirt... Joe Schmo who’s currently a cashier at Walgreens.. I’d take any of them.

I’m so sick of having to watch him swiping it up after committing PI fouls and tackling guys 20 yards down the field.

*Please, Lord, grant me this one wish.*

agree 100%

I am a huge Notre Dame fan and thought Jaylon would be great if he could recover from his knee injury but the guy has seriously regressed. He seems to have no football sense and is a liability for this team. No way he can be on this team moving forward. Total waste

..good idea, but dont feel Jaylon is going no where. Just signed a contract. What we can really hope for, is getting a coach to bring out his best skills.

Need to play him at strong side LB. Best role for him.

That's your one and only Cowboys wish for the offseason?

I can think of a few that would be soooo much better for the Cowboys than this one wish.
I’m more concerned with adding rather than subtracting

Oh no, I have a ton of other wishes, but I’d enjoy seeing the arrogant Smith kicked to the curb; especially after the “watch the film” comments he made today. Someone needs to knock him off of that undeserved pedestal

I thought he was terrible during the first half the season, but I felt like his play improved significantly down the stretch. Am I imagining it?

And it turns out that the "watch the film" comment wasn't as egregious as people claimed. Some on twitter left out some chunks of his quote that makes him sound less arrogant than people were ranting about.

And while I get he's an easy target because he hasn't been all that good the last two years, he's not even close to the biggest problem on this defense. The DC, for one is a bigger issue. I'd gladly suck it up and take Smith back for a season if that meant I could get rid of Nolan. I'd gladly suck it up and take Smith back if that meant, we could somehow grab a dominant DT this offeason.

This is funny.....a 53 man roster and only 2 or 3 get reamed weekly. Jaylon was awarded the Fall Guy Award, back in October, in a landslide vote. Jimmy laughing at the complete coaching staff and the GM.

I honestly believe he is bad enough playing wise, and toxic enough locker room wise, that they can’t possibly win with him on the roster.

the absolute poster boy for this “football” culture.

LOL.

All day, man. I’m in total agreement. Smith might be more competent if he had a great DT to clear up some space for him. Even then though, I’d only tolerate him. I’m done with him as a player haha

Jaylon is a detriment to the run defense if he doesn’t turn it around.

He has to play better or he has to go. I don’t care about the cap situation. He is killing us in the run game.

They paid Tyrone Crawford $8 million ($9.1 million in cap room) for 14 tackles and 2 sacks this year or $571k per tackle if you prefer.

Jerry was criticized for taking Jaylon Smith at 34 and sprinted to the opportunity to give him a five-year, $63.75 million contract extension with $35.4 million in guarantees, two years before they had to.

Jaylon was the 2nd leading tackler in the NFL this year,
so Jerry is going to use that, as well as his own inability to admit he screwed up, as a reason to keep Jaylon around.

The best we can hope for is the team asking Jaylon to take a paycut off the $7.2 million base salary he has coming next season. I don't see this kid's ego allowing him to take that, nor do I see the owner's vanity allowing it to even be suggested.

The salary decisions here are not always about who deserves them. It's about validating the fraudulent General Manager and his family of incompetence. Crawford being here the last few years should have shown you all that. Jason Garrett as well.

:huh: Why would they ask him to take a pay cut.......2nd leading tackler in NFL?

One of my wishes as well but someone (at or near the top) in that organization has to be telling him on a daily basis that he is the best LB'er in the league. There can be no other explanation for how that dude acts. He's definitely a legend in his own mind. Sadly, I think he is a legend in ownership's mind as well which means he won't be upgraded anytime soon.
