Just hand the man a blank check, jeez. I'm one of Dak's biggest fans but even I don't want him making more than $36 million a year. They really should have gotten his deal done before Goff, Wentz, Mahomes and Watson reset the market.
It's mind boggling we did not get this done. It is not even about what Jerry or fans etc...think Dak is worth. The MARKET dictates what he is worth. That is how it works. Jerry did not just buy the Cowboys yesterday, he should know better. Not only that...he just saw how this played out in Washington....so we should not have fallen into the same trap. There is a reason that the Cowboys and Commanders (along with the Lions) are the only team to not play in the NFC title game in the last 25 years.

We had no problem paying Dak 500k/year when he was winning 13 games. Then when it is time for him to FINALLY get paid is when all the problems start. What had the Lions paid Stafford over the years? What has it gotten them? It does not matter, franchise QBs get paid for being franchise QBs. How did the Texans do this year? Do you think the Texans regret paying Desean Watson? There are tons of examples like this. Whether we like it or not...this is how business in the NFL is conducted.

You could argue they are ALL overpaid....INCLUDING the owners....but it is what it is. So if this the business you want to be in...this is the price you pay.

I didnt say 1 guy did I? I said we have a top pick in multiple rounds.

And this team has really done a bang up job on defensive draft picks that have contributed right away. Heck Diggs was what, the first guy in over a decade that came in and actually contributed? But you are right, let's leave it up to the GM who once dedicated a draft to special teams. That should fix it.

Lawrence was good right away, he just wasn't top 5 LDE good. I blame that on injuries and coming out of tiny BSU.

Ok. I get what you're saying. But what makes you believe the same GM would do better if we dont pay Dak? lol. It doesnt matter what happens with Beavis and Butthead in control. So I am all for signing the guy that at least makes games interesting as opposed to watching us tread water for 4 years before Jerry brings in another Parcells type to fix his mistakes

That is only true if you think that Philly overpaying Wentz was logical or that Minnesota overpaying for Cousins was worth it. None of those were good signings and yet here we are - the market dictates it. Sure, some idiot will always overpay doesn't mean that you need to be that idiot.
He’s going to be tagged again.
1st off, no one is signing anything or anyone until he’s able to prove he’s fully recovered from his ankle. No team signs injured players and that wasn’t some minor injury.
2nd, Dak went out and got himself the agent who wants the money. He knows the Cousins template and that’s what he’s going to to do because it’s the best possible way to the money.
Dak will be tagged again. 37.5 million. One year.
That’s the best way to a high profit and gets you the most leverage the following year.

Jerry Jones is the worst GM in the league. He bid against himself even when he doesn't need to, nobody is going to give that $35M+ per season except the man writing the check that also paid Zeke $90M.
Every team in the league that needs a QB would be giddy to give Dak a 35 mil per year contract. Everyone of them.

You have more leverage now then you did before he got hurt JJ. If he had a big year, he'd be right, but he didn't. You can re-sign Dalton and really squeeze it if you want to. JJ is a bad at this. ( I want Dak back too, but you're not friends at the negotiation table)

The question really more is would a team in the top 10 forego a 1st rd QB for Dak @ 35M. Most wouldn't.

Jerry's going to cave isn't he...

‘His evolving into an NFL QB ...’? What? Is he still evolving into an NFL QB? It has been 5 years. Dak’s win-loss record has basically been decreasing since his rookie year.

I am not seeing this ‘evolution’ as time goes on. I am also not seeing any team offer remotely close to $35M.

so what do you think a franchise QB should be paid? 25m/year? I mean the franchise tag for a QB is 35m+ per year!

37.5 MIL for 1 year if he just waits and signs the tag again. That’s fully paid out the second he signs.
Cousins knew how to maximize his worth and get the most out of the team.

And Jerry sat back and watch the dram unfold in Washington....and REPEATED it. It's mind boggling!

Again, the values tossed are subjective and based on desperation. Mahomes contract has him at $45 million a year. That's the bar for perhaps the best QB out there along with Aaron Rodgers at $33 million a year. Am I to believe that Dak is in this realm? It's like telling me that because a Rembrandt sold for $100 million, that the market deems that Billy's finger painting is now $80 million.

I guess I should not have assumed you know how this works. So when did Aaron Rodgers sign his deal? I guess we should tell Marino to put a jersey on...because he never made 33m/year...right? And he is surely better than Dak, Stafford, Matt Ryan, Deashaun Watson etc...

I love Dak and I love trolling Dak Haters but Cowboys first always.....I would Tag Dak again and see if the ankle grounds itself. It's a risky chance as the $$$ could get higher but injuries are 100%.
I won't ignore Football Facts no matter whom the player is...

I do, and but again please explain in what world Dak is better than Rodgers or anywhere close to that? I get inflation but Jesus, 40 million for a guy who cannot read defenses? It's pure speculation as are the contracts given out to Watson, Matt Ryan. I get paying a guy after he has achieved something but sheesh this is frigging insane.
