If the defenders have 2nd round grades or close to it then I’d be ok with it.

Id hate it but I can understand it.

Anyone think Leatherwood can play guard? I need to watch more of him.

It’s sad to think about but I don’t think we will be able to add any impact to this roster. Status quo incoming.

I think they’ll just sell McCarthy having a full offseason and a healthy roster. We’ll buy it too.

I would indeed. Is their another choice? Sit here and beech and moan all off-season and season ...AGAIN?

One of the biggest bright spots this season was the emergence of Dalton Schultz, who has proven to be a formidable TE and of starter quality. No reason to waste a top draft pick on a TE, give Schultz the offseason to improve even further and we got ourselves a reliable TE.

He’s a fine fine no. 2 TE for the Dallas Cowboys✌

Dam straight! That's what I'm talking about!

Schultz was very soft and complacent on that last pass in my book. "formidable"? Please.

It would have been nice to see him at least prevent McKinney from picking it off but i don't hold that against him too much as I'm not sure the cowboys had anything else up their sleeve on 4th down. I thought Shultz was a pleasant surprise who had bookend bad plays. The Rams game he missed a TD pass went through his hands and then the play against the giants but he exceeded my expectations and look forward to him next year. And there isn't many people on the team I can say exceeded my expectations this year.

Not to mention that CeeDee my favorite player screwed the Pooch the play before. I was more upset with that

I agree, although I don't know if I agree that he should be considered to have earned the starting gig. If Jarwin comes bake healthy they can compete for it. Regardless, I would expect both to see action.

And even Bell looked good - a stronger player who can help as a blocker, but he also did very well with the limited receiving opportunities he got.

Meh, bring in competition and let him earn it again. No freebies based on this season.....
I agree that there should be competition, but the main point of the OP was there was no need to use a high draft pick on a TE, and I also agree with that.

Frankly, if Jarwin is healthy, between him, Schultz and Bell the TE position should be well covered, so I don't even know if they need to add anyone. Let Schultz and Jarwin fight it out.

No. 1

Why is anyone denying that Schultz has clearly shown traits to be a no. 1? Overrating Jarwin? Some FF type of thinkng? I don't get it.

Schultz played very similar to Witten, and served as a security blanket and go-to-guy on key downs.

I think he played with more speed and reaction than Witten's last few years.

I didn't see as many pre-snap penalties from Schultz, like false starts, but I don't have the actual stats to prove this. I do feel that Jason was plagued somewhat with false starts.

We needed to get past Witten. He wasn't providing the athletic performance we needed. He knew where to go, and what to do, but he couldn't do it fast enough.

When you are at that stage it time to move onto the next part of your career.

Calling Sean Lee...Sean Lee...anyone?...anyone?

As he should. The man was one of the few who literally played his heart out.

I've liked Schultz since we drafted him. Great value for the last player taken in the 4th rd!
Disagreed with all of those saying he was a wasted pick

But it's a bit premature to say he wins the job over Jarwin without actually having to win the job in a camp competition.
Jarwin may have put up even better numbers this year, for all we know. He supposedly looked outstanding in camp.
My guess is that we use them both going forwrd

I love what Schultz did this year but it's obvious that Jarwin is the better down the field threat. I guess the question is with all the firepower on the outside do we need that. I would also expect Jarwin to be better in the red zone but how much better is open to debate. Schultz showed a ton this year and if they want to bring Jarwin back slowly from the ACL it would not cause me to lose any hair! :)

Of course. And Schultz is better at everything else. Are you comparing players based only on one facet? Weird.

PFF ranked Schultz 40th. He's a solid back-up player...... like most starters on this roster.

Well, I already knew you were crazy, ATL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He pretty much matched Witten's numbers last year , and everybody couldn't wait to get rid of Witten. But when Schultz puts up those numbers, he's a "beast".

Yeah, i'm the crazy one. :flagwave:

Look past the numbers, my good man. Schultz got open and caught the ball at an elite level. And that's w/ often iffy QB play. And was a surprisingly good YAC guy. And w/ the WR's catching a ton.

Anyway, we'll just have to see who's right on this going forward!!!!!!!!!!!
