Yep, .another one of my boys that could followed another my boy trend

And one that has a poor track record in his last three stints ...
Cross your fingers that there's much consideration than this.
Im not excited about this hire search at all

Joe Whitt, Jr. possesses the greatest possible attribute for a DC reporting to Big Mac ... a demonstrated unquestioning fealty to Big Mac himself.

As for Whitt's performance as a DBs coach, it was, to be charitable, mixed at best.

He gets credit for helping to develop UDFA CBs Tramon Williams and (in 2010 rookie) Sam Shields who were two of the top three CBs when GB won the Super Bowl after the 2010 season -- the other CB was Charles Woodson.

Unfortunately, it was pretty much downhill after 2010.

GB's D finished 32nd in yards allowed in 2011 and never in the top 10 in points allowed for the rest of Whitt's time in GB (which ended after the 2018 season).

As for the CBs that Whitt coached specifically, Woodson got old and Casey Hayward was drafted to replace him. After being the 2012 defensive rookie of the year, he never did much in GB and was allowed to go to San Diego in 2016 on a cheap deal ... where he became an All-Pro.

For some reason, Whitt and the Pack's coaching staff also had Micah Hyde playing a slot corner position (the same Micah Hyde who snagged a key interception in the Cowboys' 2016 playoff loss to the Packers) when practically every Packer fan recognized his limited speed and great ball instincts were better suited to playing safety. Hyde, like Hayward, was allowed to walk in 2017, signed with Buffalo, switched to safety, and became an all-pro player.

FWIW, both Hayward & Hyde commented publicly about being miscast or misused in GB.

GB used its 1st and 2nd round picks in the 2015 on CBs Damarious Randall and Quentin Rollins and turned these young "talents" over to Whitt for development. Don't remember them? (Well Randall had a lucky Terrence Williams dropped pass to him pick 6 in the Cowboys 2017 loss to GB). Go ahead and google them, because only their close friends and families know much about their careers. Now, whether their lack of development is attributable to Whitt or the obviously declining skills of GB's then GM Ted Thompson is open for argument, but it is not exactly a ringing endorsement for Whitt.

Whitt became GB's passing game coordinator in 2018 (so had responsibility for safeties as well as CBs) and the season went so well that Big Mac lost his job and Whitt went with him.

For those looking for positives from his time in GB, it is certainly true that Whitt was quite young (he is only 42 currently) and he can hardly be blamed for having to report to Big Mac's longtime dinosaur of a Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers nor was it his fault that the GM Thompson kept using high picks on a bunch of loser DBs -- in addition to Randall and Rollins, GB spent its 2014 1st round pick on HaHa Clinton-Dix (remember him from last offseason) and its 2017 2nd round pick on Josh Jones (another former Cowboy -- seriously, look it up).

Appreciate the insightful info that you always bring to this board regarding all past things MM related during his previous GB tenure.

Others may not pay attention but I make it a point to read your posts because it adds to my opinion of coaches/athletes (humans in general, lol) returning to their core patterns of behavior and/or performance regarding this staff.

Thanks again for this input.

Could Whitt be the Rooney rule interview, but we intend to hire him only as passing game/DB coach and Dan Quinn as DC?

If they hire veteran defensive coordinator like Quinn or Marvin Lewis. MM will be just a figure head. They should have just brought in a stooge like Wade and named Kelllen the coach in a few years. MM appears to be the stooge.
Well right....once it was obvious that Garrett was no offensive genius, he became a walk-around coach.

Only reason for that is because Goodell won't allow Jerry to do it, which he fully wants to.

Edit....maybe he doesn't want to, but he definitely thinks he CAN.

Don't think he isn't delusional to that level.

FWIW, Whitt was the most highly thought of member of Big Mac's defensive assistants in GB - even if his CB/DB units seemed to get worse the longer he was there.

Now, if Big Mac is seriously entertaining the notion of interviewing former loyal assistants like Dom Capers, Scott McCurley, or Winston Moss ... well Cowboy fans might find themselves pining for Mike Nolan or Rob Ryan in 2021.

Whitt is regarded as an excellent teacher. Does he have ties with MM? Yes. Is he coming from a bad defense? Yes. But he is a year removed from having a good season with Cleveland in terms of pass-defense ranked in the top 10.

I'd rather MM pick his own staff than have Jerry and Co. pick it for him. Let MM make his own bed if he doesn't pan out.

He's the head coach, I want his vision of the football team on both sides of the ball, not the ownerships'.

Atleast Whitt is an unknown in terms of coordinating a defense, like KM once was. I'm fine with new blood in the coordinating ranks from the NFL moreso than from college.

He was the secondary coach for the Packers when Charles Woodson had the resurgence in his career and won Defensive Player of the Year. That weights a lot in my mind.

All I want is continuity, hopefully the pick makes it for atleast a couple of years to have their scheme set.

Totally agree.
But I also find irony in the current unqualified HC putting his stamp on any defensive coach selection as a qualified candidate. I mean it's not hard to check those past McCarthy Green Bay defenses...

Kinda like the blind leading the blind so to speak, lol.

I know. And considering the boys only interviewed 2 people for the HC gig there's little hope they will cast a wider net to haul in the best DC available.

Wow, yeah i figured they were going to screw this up. ....going for a "buddy who i worked before with so i am very comfortable with him and has my complete trust"....SMH....we should be looking for someone who will turn around and make the defense better, not someone to hang around and tell stories with. I guess its asking too much and too difficult to do research and analysis of REAL QUALIFIED defensive coordinators whether they be professional or collegiate level. I fear this is not going to end well again. And this time MM neck should also be in the noose.

Mike Fisher's reporting Whitt is MM's choice and he's "pushing" for him to be the hire.

That also inquinates that the hire isn't unilateral as McCarthy is having to "push".
