Dak was Garrett's QB. Cowboys attitude towards Dak fundamentally changed when MM arrived. From that point forward it is clear that the Cowboys weren't interested in a long term deal - up to then both sides were close enough that a deal would have been done (the 5th year thing would have been resolved by allowing 5th year to void if Dak hit certain targets). I dont think Dak gambled and lost - I think MM didnt want him signed long term.

The 2020 tag was Jerry being generous and optimistic.

No competent GM would tag Dak now. Already got no return for 30m+ in 2020. No GM is going to throw another 35m+ to chase a gambled loss. Furthermore no GM is going to commit any serious money until Dak can show that he hasnt been limited by his serious injury.

Tag and trade or sign and trade is a fantasy. No GM will give up 2 x 1sts for Dak even if he were to play for free.

So expect to see Dak hit the market in March. We'll still get the PR stuff being churned out about Dak and the Cowboys being in discussions etc . But ultimately no.long term deal will be done. Cowboys will quietly explore other options.

P.s. my prediction is as follows:

Jerry is not a regular GM so he behaves differently. He's a bit soft with veteran players. Dak will get a modest incentive driven 2 year deal. He'll go on PUP in training camp, then IR and return mid season as a backup. In early summer we'll start hearing stories about him needing a little more time to rehab.

Dak was like the only bright spot on the team. We lose him and the offense went from top 5 to bottom 5. Yet people still think we should just replace Dak like its his fault the defense was the worst in franchise history.
Also zeke was trash this year so don't say he is only good with a run game. Dak was the man.

If Dak had the skins defense or bills defense we would of went to the playoffs. Dak was on pace to have a better season then Josh Allen. BTW Dak won a playoff game already. Josh Allen only won one playoff game.

Dallas/ Jerry Jones need to know how to build a team. At some point we have to take defensive line and the safety positions serious. With a better defense we easily win the division last year with Dak.

We lucked into Dak. Not his fault Jerry and them wanted him to bet on himself and each year he gets better. Pay the man. The what 35-40 mil going to look like a steal in 2-3 years. That's just how the market is.

What does Josh Allen's contract have to do with Dak's. One is winning in the playoffs as we speak, and the other is rehabbing a severe injury and sitting at home just like us. Yeah, i see the similarities.

Dont use logic to determine the QB market. Agents don't have to, because there's always multiple bidders.

Only two QBs have been tagged before. Brees and Cousins. Both not signed to long term deals and on a new team. History is saying dak May play on the tag again and will not be a cowboy for 2022

If Dak where smart he'd tell Jerry to get lost and go sign with Indy

Jerry and stephen kept.lowballing him and now he will make even more guaranteed money now after signing 2 tags. The franchise will regret this. Not dak

Dak was lowballing Jerry.

Jerry brings a lot to the table financially that most other owners don't, particularly for a QB. Sure, Dak can get bigger numbers *in his contract* elsewhere, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll make more money and get to *keep* more money after taxes.

A QB who can't appreciate what Jerry brings to the table financially is the *wrong* QB for the Cowboys.

Very interesting thoughts fair play. We shall see how it plays out

Dak is not the desease nor the remedy . An expensive bus driver with some flashes of talent occasionally, and some failures sprinkled all over . I think his injury makes his value diminish . But the PR machine and politics is dictating much of the decisions and Jerry won’t make a stand on Dak and won’t let him leave . The saga continues . Mark my work , he is not the solution. This team needs all the cap money to fix the defense and OL . We have seen Dak start with an intact OL , the team was losing and declining .

What world are you living in? I will make it easy for you. If Dak was a free agent today. The Football Team would give him at least 40 million a season. The Cowboys would be stupid to let him go for free. Since your obviously not paying attention, the Cowboys are not letting Dak go.

Nobody is giving Dak 40m , even if he wasnt injured. No point in keeping an expensive QB who just isnt good enough. NFL is now so geared towards elite QBs its very difficult to win without one.

How do you know that? There is a reason he did not sign his last contract. His agent is one of the best. You gonna be disappointed when Dak signs at least a 4 year deal with the Cowboys. I will mark this thread.
