The move garnered a lot of criticism from around the league. Chris Collinsworth called him out on national TV for tanking. Pederson looked embarrassed trying to explain his decision claiming all his top guys were out there at the end when Hurts was on the bench. It sealed his fate in my opinion.

pretty sure the tanking was from top.
and pretty sure it was just a last straw for doug who reportedly wanted out by week 10.
there was heavy interference from mgmt as you can sort of expect when you are awful but the guys they wanted to fire were all recent super bowl champs.

Much of the response over at Bleeding Green Nation is that GM Howie Roseman should have gotten the axe instead of HC DOUG PEDERSON.

I was listening to a Philly radio station on my way home from work today at around 7AM. That was the general consensus. However, they had a guest on ( someone in the know) that revealed what was happening and this is what I picked up.

First of all, Howie and the owner are chums. So keep that in mind. The owner and gang had an initial meeting. The owner was concerned about the direction Peterson wanted the team to go personnel wise. And his probable pick for OC was also a problem for players. So they set up another meeting today. So by the looks of things Peterson got voted out. My guess is Wentz was a concern. And the owner chose Wentz over Peterson.

When Jeffrey lurie didn't even go to the vikes game out of disgust, the writing was on the wall. He had to choose between pederson or howie. Whether or not he made the right decision remains to be seen. Fletcher cox won't be happy.

If the tanking move was from the top I don’t think they expected the criticism they received. A decision like that is going to fall on the head coach. It made Pederson and the organization look bad.

it is surprising but im betting the way he handled the qb situations the entire time maybe got him the axe..their 33mil dollar toy was either hurt or benched far too much ,is it possibly DPs fault that wentz fell off or didn't fully develop? wondering if JL wants wentz to have shot at starting again and DP said NFW..??

its similar to whats happening in CHI also with foles coincidentally..

only 3 years for a SB winner...not sure i agree i mean he made the playoffs what 3 of 4 years?

Lol, how many of our fans thought he was the greatest thing ever?

Fan perceptions and narratives are often silly, mine included.

Was Pederson best thing since sliced bread?
Is he now suddenly 'exposed' as a fraud coach?

I'm a little surprised, but at the same time, not really surprised at all. You could tell the energy with that team was bad. Usually the head coach is either responsible for that or at very least the fall guy for it. Let's hope they don't make a great hire for HC next. :D

So... did Roseman covinced Lurie they need to stick with Wentz--then the new coach is going to jettison Hurts.
BUT- the new HC inherits an old, talent-deprived roster, with cap blunders that will take a couple of offseasons to salvage.

I think the bottom line was Peterson was trying to usurp some of Howie's control. They didn't want a repeat of the Chip Kelly fiasco. So Peterson stood no chance. He wasn't hired to do that.

They don't have to Jettison Hurts. This was his rookie season. They can wait at least one more year to evaluate Wentz. But your main point is going to be a problem since Howie messed up the cap. Just look at those contracts. He makes Jerry look like a cap scholar.

Philly is ruthless. Get the playoffs with an injury ridden team and win a Super Bowl and get treated like that.

I imagine this had to come down to the Wentz situation.

Why is Philly management being considered great? You don't give a guy a bunch of injury prone bums, which he drags to the playoffs, and then fire him when he's working with soon to be burger king employees.

Not surprising if his is true and I personally would have done the same in his shoes. This is an owner and GM overstepping. We know all too well about this with Jerry and his dopey son.

Perception is everything and his handling of the WFT tank game cemented his fate.

It's unfortunate. I think he is a pretty good coach. Maybe not in the top tier but far above most. Including Fat Garrett. By a mile.

I have respected Lurie and Roseman's Eagle leadership in the past and they now face another major future impacting decision with the selection of a new HC. And this coming after relieving their franchise QB of his duties already. They accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time after the firing of Chip Kelly a few years back. It will be interesting to see how pro active they are and the results achieved.
