Would You Be Happy With An Improved Marinelli Defense?

Quinn and Marinelli run similar-ish defensive-styles, even more-so with Kris Richard. I’ve seen many concerns about the similarities in style and return to similar results. I’m not 100% sure about how I feel about the hire, but I do know that if he can just be a slightly-improved version of the Marinelli-era, then we can be enough defensively to support the big-time offense.

If I recall correctly the biggest gripe in the Marinelli and eventual Richard era was the simplicity and lack of difficulty for opposing QB’s. Positively, the unit was an overall solid bend-but-don’t-break unit who routinely finished well in points allowed. They also were rarely poor run defenses. All in all the defenses in this era were slightly below average to solid.

If Quinn can come in and add a bit more variation, a little less stubbornness with old techniques, and some more blitzing/turnover creation, then we have a defense that is good enough to not hold the team back. With this offense, that’s all we really need.

There are still teams in the league who run a variation of the scheme, and by all accounts Quinn is a good teacher and motivator.

Would that be good enough for y’all?

Interesting. I don't really see these two schemes as all that similar, to be honest.

yes.
i think we can be a 4-3 and still disguise stuff.
i'd like to think we can stop the run,win on 3rd down and cover the damn te too but for now...just disguise some coverages.
please and thank you.

Hell I’d take marinelli as long as he was kept away from making roster decisions. His need for players to fit his system, and his belief that he can coach up below average players was his real downfall.

his scheme isn’t my first choice, but you can win with it.

His defensive scheme seemed to work in 2018 better than 2019 with the uncoordinated schemes of the front seven and the backfield.
However, he ignored a basic tenet of a good defense - a stud DT 1-tech. He relied on defensive ends and couldn't draft the right guys.
I don't know exactly what Quinn will bring us in terms of scheme, (straight 4-3 or hybrid), but I hope he has them playing a coordinated scheme.

Kam Chancellor said, and I quote "we either play man or cover 3, its no secret"......maybe not quoted but close enough. Were going to be as simple as our offense in the 90s lol

This just seems so backwards....it makes it like this Nolan year was a waste of a lot of guys prime.......but I mean with as many injuries as they had...I guess this was the year to waste away......

The run defense started to get gashed when they played the Colts in 2018 and of course the Rams. Providing many cut back lanes. It continued into 2019 where Dallas was 31st in the league allowing 158 yards per game and then the disaster that was this season

The defense hasn’t been good in any area since prior to the Colts game in 2018.
