Need is never irrelevant if the top 10 pick will sit on the bench if not needed.

Reaching for need gets you Taco. False sense of achievement but then you realize you have what the bird left on the fence post.

Could go either way...depends on your optimism about the somewhat mysterious neck injury/surgery. If he goes back to playing 13 games at a pro bowl level like he did ‘16-‘19 he’ll still have plenty of value. If the surgery was a correctable issue that won’t linger the time off honestly might actually have done Tyron some good. But also no denying the injuries are mounting and time is running out...just a matter if you think the end is now or he can make it another 3/4 years (insanely he still won’t be even 35).
You want to flip him for a pick now, while teams are optimistic he can return to an All Pro level. This team is young. Ideally you want a player who has a 10 year window in front of him, not a couple of years if you are lucky.

You flip him to a team willing to bet on his health and then use the pick you received for Tyron to set off the pick you used to draft his replacement. Tyron is getting close to the end of his shelf life. Flip him and move one.

You might rue trading him in the short run but in the long run you would be all smiles.

I’d break my TV if that happened. Only way I’m drafting an OT over Surtain is if for certain Smith or Collins is done. Even then I’m still going Surtain
These people can't be serious going offense before defense yet again in the 1st round...just can't be....I don't even care if Tyron retires I'm still not going that position this year. Slide Collins to left tackle and start Conner Williams at right tackle or one of the guys who started this year. Or hell find someone in free agency but that pick can not be a offensive pick....

Slater is good, and if nobody is left on your board and you can't trade down sure but I don't believe either will be the case.
The Cowboys will have players as options, and if a QB is there you will have an option to trade down.
This class is very strong at OT, I would be happy if we added more picks and got one later in the draft.

I don't see this happening. But there are some things I am not sure of, like Tyron's health and desire to come back and play for the Cowboys. But, if the Cowboys trade Tyron for a 2nd round pick and then take an OT, I'd be okay with that. Then they can take a CB and S in round 2. But is Slater the right guy at 10? He would be replacing one of the best LTs to play the game. Remember all the problems Andrew Thomas had this year for the Giants? I don't want that.

If they take an OT, they need to take a guy who is going to face Chase Young 2 every year.
No one is giving a 2nd round pick for Tyron Smith.

fans need to be ready.OT is the most logical choice at 10,they make immediate impact and you can spend most of the FA money on proven Defensive players/

It's illogical that the only way the Cowboys can seemingly field a good OL is if they use a bunch of premium picks on OL. And then year after year we see a defense that lacks talent. Slater isn't elite enough IMO to think he'd be far and away the best player at 10.

Further, are we factoring in a cut or trade of Tyron Smith here?

We don't have a lot of FA to spend on proven defensive players. They will have enough to scrap the barrel in FA. So they have to come out of this draft with some really good defensive prospects.

It would depend upon on who you added in FA, but if we don’t add significant pieces on D, then I would go with Surtain.

When the last time the cowboys did that though?

And has he looked at the Cowboys cap situation in 2021? They won't have that much cap space after you factor in Dak, account for draft picks and likely a couple of signings of some of our own guys.

Count me as someone who is "worried" about the OL in the back of my mind. Fredbeard's retirement, Tyron's ailments, and Connor Williams mediocre play put me on board. Also, given the fact that this is a terrible defensive draft (especially for can't miss guys). I'd understand.

I'm cool with this. Realistically, we are not going far if we don''t have a LT. Yeah, our guys were injured. But the OL is currently in shambles and there's no guarantee those injuries heal.

I'm fine with the pick, although I prefer Leatherwood, but my question is what money? The Cowboys will likely have to dumpster dive again after resigning Dak. There is a very slim chance of adding anyone to the defense that would provide a significant boost in play.

I count seven players i would take before a OG/RT he is just to short to play LT

12. San Francisco - Patrick Surtain II CB Alabama
13. L.A. Chargers - Christian Darrisaw T Virginia Tech
16. Arizona - Jaycee Horn CB South Carolina
22. Tennessee - Zaven Collins LB Tulsa
30. Buffalo - Jalen Mayfield T/G Michigan
31. Green Bay - Daviyon Nixon DT Iowa
24. Pittsburgh - Mac Jones QB Alabama

2 rd 54. Indianapolis - Alex Leatherwood T Alabama

never last that long

in fact i might even trade back into the first rd to pick Leaterwood

agreed, but we wouldn't be reaching for defensive help at 10.
