Let me say it again, despite the overall cynicism: I am not saying Quinn is a great head coach or a great GM. But if you are looking for someone who understands how to coordinate a championship defense, you have one in Dan Quinn. There is a very long list of excellent coordinators who were not excellent head coaches. It happens. That doesn’t mean this pairing will automatically work, but in a world where there was literally nobody they could hire who would be better, I suggest we take a deep breath and enjoy a solid move for once.
We will all find out this fall and this time next year many questions will be answered.

Quinn's relatively simple defensive scheme preferences are well-suited to Dallas' present people but it surely doesn't mean several draft prospects won't be sorely needed. I'm hoping Dak's prospective contract demands won't be too damaging to reasonably affordable vet FA acquisitions, either. The present Dallas defense sorely needs help and plenty of it.

I don't know much about Quinn. Had a good run in Seattle but they were loaded on offense. He had a good run in Atlanta and should have won the super bowl. The defense was never great though and they really struggled once Shannahan left.

Regardless, Dallas needs to drastically upgrade their talent on defense. If that is not done, no one will have success here. Not only do they need quite a few above average starters, they also need quality depth.

For years, I have wanted a physical, smart defense. I have been waiting a long time.

We just need To Quinn to be a teacher on defense because the fundamentals of football were not displayed last year whatsoever

Filling gaps.....gap integrity......turning your head these were things that were missing in Dallas...

Wholeheartedly agree. Just like MM last season, Quinn was absolutely the most qualified coach available for hire. Championships matter in this league and these boys have a plethora between them. The Jones's hired both coaches because they've won Super Bowls and nothing else.

Sturm also liked the Mike McCarthy hire.

Sturm has gone from an analyst to an old fart that only talks about resumes. This time a year ago Sturm was saying Anthony Davis (NBA) wasn't very good because of his resume. Now that he won a title with Lebron he's a top 5 player.

I mean... winning is what separates you. Sturm is great

I am going to say - I'm optimistic at this point.
The big failure last year was, as many have stated - trying to change a defensive philosophy during a pandemic. Nolen didn't stand a chance. Mostly his fault, but the FO has to bear part of the blame for attempting that.
Don't really know too much about Quinn, other than what most of us do - kinda get the same vibe as a Kris Richard type, but with more skins on the wall.
If he can hold the likes of Trystan Hill etc. accountable, rein in Jaylon Smiths showboating and get a good safety in here - who knows …
I'm actually a little torn when thinking about the draft coming up, and how that now relates to Quinn. I was all over "Tank for Sewell" but those dreams went down the toilet. I want this draft to be defensive heavy as most of us do. Its the 1st round I'm having problems with. Would love one of two players at # 10 - and its one from each side of the ball. Either Farley the CB or Slater the OT/OG. Followed by Moerhig the Safety in 2nd. And Im smiling all draft long. My head says take the CB first, Safety second and now we are playing with house money. But I also want that line and Smith covered for if he is really breaking down.
We will see how they proceed, but I'm willing to not poo poo the hiring of Quin and see (hopefully) what and off-season and TC can show us.

This will not be a one year fix I hate to say it. This team needs alot in the front 7 especially if neither Smith or LVE can be salvaged. Then you're talking rebuilding dang near an entire front 7 plus finding a center field type FS. There's simply not enough in this draft nor salary cap to fix this all in one season. If we could get vast improvement not totally fixed I'd be fine with that because if we fix it all of a sudden it will be a one year fix because we'd most assuredly be over the cap the next season and lose all the pieces.

And not 8 players, including the anchor of his front 7, Hightower, and anchor of his secondary, Chung. opting out before the season started. The S position is critical to any Belichick defense and Hightower was his QB on a D that demands a smart QB.

Getting Newton was a huge mistake as it would have been for any team but what choice did he have? NE had a bad season but he's still the best I've ever seen.
He is. But without great players he won't dance on the big stage again.

It's good to see so many of us are keeping an open mind about Quinn and other incoming coaches who attempt to help this team!

I can't link this. Just passing on some comments.

Do you know how good you have to be to fail in your third Super Bowl in four years?

It sounds to me like the Cowboys have two guys (McCarthy and Quinn) who know a little about winning on their coaching staff, and they have recently taken the spots of guys who did not know nearly as much. You can tell me that they needed incredible players to get there. I agree. Every coach does. Quinn and McCarthy do not have magic spells and enough sleight of hand to replace the talent deficiency this defense surely has. But you cannot add that in January. It arrives in the spring.

Let me say it again, despite the overall cynicism: I am not saying Quinn is a great head coach or a great GM. I think DQ was the best hire available.

no coach is 100 percent, but with his background and history, it’s the best chance we are going to get.

not expecting miracles.

but if he can get us to an average defense in 2021, I will take it.

we just need average for now.

I think LVE and JS with like going to the new scheme.

DQ is for real.

MM struggled in 2020.

he still has time to turn it around. (DQ has HC exp. big Mikes replacement?)

im giving him another chance.

need to see wins.

last chance Mike.

You need good players to be successful. Ask belichik. Cam wasn't brady 2.0. The road to the big dance requires a good defense.
