Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie’s decision to fire coach Doug Pederson may have stemmed from a difference of opinion about who should be the team’s starting quarterback going forward.

Pederson thinks Jalen Hurts gives the Eagles the best chance to win, and Lurie wants to salvage Carson Wentz, according to Troy Aikman, who said on Michael Irvin’s podcast that he spoke to Pederson after Pederson was fired.

I reached out to Doug Pederson yesterday when I heard the news,” Aikman said. “What I gathered it came down to was a difference of opinion as to how they’re moving forward at the quarterback position, is what I sensed. Jeff Lurie, the owner, has paid a lot of money to Carson Wentz, and they’re on the hook with him, they can’t get out of that contract right away. It’s my belief that Doug Pederson felt that Jalen Hurts is probably the quarterback going forward. And how does that mesh?”

Who knows with them.....if you start Wentz again Hurts will want a trade and Wentz had already said he wanted to be traded

this is just a mess and i hope it last all offseason that way i dont have to hear the media and all the cowboys nonsense they love to talk 24/7

I think you fix the offensive line and work on Wentz mechanics and he could make a come back
Wentz since his career started has always ranked in the bottom 5 of accuracy for starting quarterbacks.

The only reason he did well in this league was because he was big and athletic. Not that he isn’t nearly as Mobile post acl year he’s going to have a fall off faster than Cam Newton.

He’ll always be mediocre from this point on due to low football IQ, bad mechanics, and dirt poor accuracy

Figured as much. Huge contract and investment in Wentz. Pretty clear he and Pedersen can't work well together. Owner brings in a HC who's number one mandate will be to salvage Wentz as a QB. No brainer.

This guarantees future misery for the Eagles. Life is good.

You would think a billionaire would understand how to avoid the sunk-cost fallacy.
Typically, smart business decisions aren't predicated on the physical talents of one individual. But sports aren't typical businesses. Danny snyder forced rg111 on Shanahan and haskins on jay gruden. Philly screwed up with wentz and now they're stuck with him.

I'm kind of glad Lurie won because I think Hurts is the better QB at this point. I just assume they go with Wentz cuz it gives them a worse chance of winning
That is fake news. I have heard it on here that Wentz can do not wrong. He is greatest qb to ever play the game.
