What are some options at safety-fa/draft?

It was curious to see him, Dak, Dupree all shared the same agent, all three weren't able to sign extensions. I would figure out a way to sign him and Tomlinson and call it a day, but we know that's not what the Cowboys would do.
That’s a pipe dream that most on here would love but were not that lucky lol

Honestly the more I look at it I would be comfortable trading in the 20s and taking safety with the first pick. The fs is that important in cover 3. Either pay up for a top free agent or draft him, but either way you get what you pay for.

Problem is, no safety will carry a 1st rd grade, we would be reaching to fill a need, which we want to avoid at all costs.

I agree to an extent but taking a guy maybe five picks early isn't as big a deal. Like taking a safety at 10 would obviously be too high but ~28? Not as big a deal imo. Plus you get the advantage of the fifth year and another pick. Alternatively, we could trade up in the 2nd round but it would probably take a 3rd. That is why trading back from 10 to the 20s appeals to me.

You could trade back on the 20’s take a player, then use the extra pick to trade up to get the safety

If released, it would be all about price. Great option though

You can argue he's Earl Thomas w/o character and durability issues. His current deal averaged $10M. So I'm guessing $5-7M could get it done. He certainly has played at a high level the last few years.

The two best safeties in the 2020 draft lasted until the 2nd round. Unfortunately, we don't really know what that means since both were injured and put on IR. Grant Delpit ruptured his Achilles and missed the season, while Xavier McKinney fractured his foot and play only a little at the end of the season. He did intercept a pass against the Cowboys to seal the win for the Giants. So we don't know how good these two guys are at the NFL level.

I think there are a few safeties in this draft who could be as good as Delpit and McKinney and they will be available at the top of the 2nd round. But I still think this is a weak draft class overall so we could see the top safeties picked earlier because they present more value than some of the other players.

I see we have some skeptic on this forum who don't think the Cowboys will draft a Safety as high as the 2nd round. Count me in that group. I think they will wait until the 4th round to take a safety, but I am a cynic.

I think that 5-7 range is way too low. Just read on PFF site where they are predicting the salaries of the top 100 free agents, they have Xavier Woods being resigned to the Cowboys at 6 million/season. Think the number would be more in that 10-12 range for Smith, which we aren't spending in fa. I really think Kazee is the most likely safety we sign not only due to his price coming off of a major injury, but cause he played under both Quinn/Whitt in Atlanta.

We need to see it, to believe it!

So they're saying at 31 he can command the same yearly average as his original deal? I'm not sure but we'll see.....

If they want a true free safety. The only guys on film that showed anyway deep range that I saw is Moehrig, Washington, and Cisco. Cisco looked the most not ready and I wouldnt draft him and expect him to win the job. The other two I would. Grant and Lecounte have to show that they have the athleticism at the combine to play single high since they didnt show it in college.

Hamsah is good but I'm a Donovan Wilson guy. Dont need a strong safety. Holland didnt impress me. Wiggins strong safety. I think thats it

FA. If it isnt Maye, or marcus williams its nothing. We arent even going to attempt simmons.
Folks here may not like it but I think there is a very good chance that this team will sign Earl Thomas. He’s not the same player. But I think the Quinn hire and his connection to the player will get the Jones boys on board. If that’s the route we go then some of these guys should be looked at starting in round 3. They may not be ready to start right away but they could certainly be looked at for the future.

How good is Moehrig really? This is weak safety class. We might be better off drafting a nickel cornerback like Wade from Ohio State with that pick. Personally I think Wade could develop into a good free safety.

Watch him and you tell us. You call it weak but theres atleast 3 dudes better than the first safety drafted last year.
