Trade that 10th pick?

The two players we have that likely have trade value are Dak and Lawrence. Dak will be expensive so there is that. Lawrence would be too but his contract could be reworked. The other thing is, does Lawrence fit? He's really not big enough to play the Strong Side DE in this scheme and he's not quick enough, IMO, to play the Wide 9 guy. His cap percentage is substantial and do you really want to be on the hook for that if he doesn't fit the scheme?

I think you adjust the scheme to fit the talent you have.

History tell us we should be able to grab a defender who can help at 10. To me a deal to trade back would have to include a difference maker on defense.

Trade down please.

Been saying it for months.

Trading CeeDee would be a HUGE mistake.

This is my philosophy...trading down...you just don’t seem to see it as much because there aren’t many willing partners to give up assets

Trade down is great if someone wants to trade up. Sometimes, that just isn't the case.

Hopefully, a QB-needy team will get antsy and want to move up.

I think that's what we watched happen last season and where is that DC now? I don't think you hire one of the most well respected DCs in the NFL and pay them big bucks to come in and change their scheme. If you do, then I think you can probably count on another failed Defensive effort and several more seasons of same until we are back at square one with personnel.

If these coaches are as good as we think they are they probably have adjusted their schemes to fit players they have. I seem to remember this board wanting coaches who were able to do those things.

I just cant help but think Jerry is going to go offense with the first pick. He still wants to make that splash style pick and to him that means offense. If we stay at 10 I can see JJ going with Mac Jones if he wants a new QB which I think would be a great pick. If not even with the receivers we have I can see JJ still going with Ja'Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith at wide receiver or either TE Kyle Pitts if they are still on the board. I think the only way JJ goes defense in the first round is if those players are already gone. Then he will go best defensive player available.

There are 13 teams with cap problems which means some of them will have to part ways with some players and among those players might be some young, in their 1st contract, D players that are better than what they can get at that 10 spot.

Teams that have to let players walk are in need of young affordable talent, just what that 10th pick could bring them.

The Cowboys are a D or F in FA and C in the draft but they've been an A in trades for players with Cooper and Quinn. I'd say they got more than the 1st pick value with Cooper.

They need immediate help on that D and bringing in a proven player with experience might just be the ticket.

I was going to add Lamb to this as prime trade bait for players or picks but I know how much some of you love him so.

They need to jump start the D build out and I see this as a better path to do that. What say you?

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Lamb, but we'd have to get an even better haul than the Jets got for Adams.

I can't remember a year in which so many people wanted to trade away our team. I've seen people wanting to offer up Gallup, Cooper, Zeke, Lamb, Gregory, Dlaw, Dak......lol.....the list goes on. I say let's just keep rolling with what we got, let the draft board fall to you, and then pull the trigger on a player or trade out if we don't like anybody. The FO gets crucified on this board for trying to get too cute with things yet some people want them to do just that.

I would say cooper trade was an A, but Quin was a D+, or C-.....yeah we gave up a 6th, for a partial year and the player walked....he got a few sacks, but he sucked on run defense.

and like you said all teams have to deal with cap issues......including Dallas.....its going to be an interesting year in FA....probably teams may decide to keep their young talent and let go of their older talent and bloated contracts, so lots of veteran FAs might hit the market...

and I wouldn't mind trading that 10th pick of surtain, farley or parsons aren't available. if Pitts is there, I think some team might make a good trade up to get him. I would be against drafting Pitts. enough offense already. hope that would translate to decent pick this year and a nice future pick (like a mid first round in the 20s, 3rd rounder and a future 2nd).

We traded a 6th and turned it into a comp 4th. That's a win any way you slice it.

Now I know you are bored.

I say no to a trade. We hold our position in the draft. Let that #10 percolate and grow bigger as graft time and only take an offer that sends us a starter who is near the end of his rookie contract like with Cooper.

One who has am immediate need for us to fix a real problem position. Like safety or LB or DE. Then in any trade if we do this we swap with the other team and receive their 1st rd pick which ends up being late 1st rd.

This adds another starter for us plus another starter we will have to fit under the cap with the trade pick. This adds value to both parties to get what that they need.

If an ideal trade like this happens it would not be risky to do it.

This is not blue-sky thinking. The right teams have to be identified leading up to the draft. Teams with new wanting to quick start their programs are our target teams. There are about 10 from what I can see.

As for adding CeeDee to any trade no no no.

Just stop and think. We had Beasley during Daks best year in 2016 and were playing with a committee
receiver group that did not work. Dak had to have a clear #1 receiver to tell us if Dak was going to improve.

Enter Cooper. This is clearly an answer to supporting Dak better. After Beasley left we signed a Cobb from GB who had nearly 900 yards.

I thought we had dodged a bullet with Cobb.

He then moves on in FA to the Texans. We all were concerned that after not replacing Witten being released that finding a player capable of taking up that slack plus losing Cobb was going to throw a wrench in the explosiveness of the offense.

Then last year..we draft CeeDee who is like 3 yards short of a 1000 yrds at slot receiver from nothing but backups.

CeeDee is a plug and play guy who has the potential to play any pass catching position without any weakness.

Plus he plays kick return and gadjet plays which we need to get him touches. He is too good not to.

So I strongly would not want a trade back in this draft.. I think another blue chip player will fall to us at #10 and we absolutely do not undress Dak's offense by trading what is a crucial player needed for us to get our money worth from Dak.

So get over your bordem and stop fueling potential trade scenarios that make no sense and only hurt us more.

That a boy.

Here is a nice treaty..speak for me..speak..open your mouth.

Good boy..:muttley:

( just kidding you..I know how smart you are with your thoughts..later)

Trade up and get a QB.

I like the idea, but I think we're a bit far out for that. Dallas would have to trade up to the #3 pick I think. I don't think two first rounders, (this and next year) would do it. It's going to take another 2nd or 3rd, not sure which. I'd have to go back and look at the chart.

That said, and even if the QB turns out to be good, Dallas won't be able to rebuild the D through the draft without a number of decent picks. That's a problem.

I don't know how good these coaches are but I don't really think you are listening to what I'm telling you. We hired him to recreate what he did in Seattle. We didn't hire him to conceive a different scheme here in Dallas. You don't bring these guys in and tell them to make the square pegs fit round holes. Yeah, maybe they are forced to adjust if injuries or for short period of time, until they get the right personnel. I understand that but you don't saddle them with a huge cap number that will never fit into their scheme.

I personally like Coaches who can look at talent and build around them but this guy, that aint him. Now I didn't do the hiring here so that's not on me. I'm just telling you what it is. You can believe that or not, that's up to you.

You could get c.4 starters on D in free agency for the 30-35m saved. The D isnt one or two elite players away. Would improve more with straighforward upgrades in a number of positions.

I see your point based on the Cooper trade. But the Cowboys are going to have all they can handle with the cap as it is. Those types of trades are very costly. Also see Cooper for that.

Hypothetically, if we did hit on a QB then we wouldn’t need to build the defense through the draft as we’d have 40m per year to spend.

I could be wrong, but I'm not liking what I see with the cap right now. It's not like Dallas has 30-35 million to spend if they let Dak walk. Dallas is projected to be 10 million under the cap for 2021 without having signed any free agents. That includes Dak. In my opinion Dallas isn't signing much in FA whether or not they sign Dak.

If I remember correctly, and after looking at the draft trade chart, if Dallas was picking 6th or 7th trading up would be very doable. Again, I could be wrong, I'm not a GM.

Cooper has produced great value for a 1st round pick. The problem is that we gave up a 1st AND a $100 million contract for his services.

Draft picks allow you cheap talent, and we desperately need it w/the bad contracts we've dished out (Jalen, Zeke etc). So no to trading the pick for an NFL veteran.
