Tanking would have been the right strategy

For every example you give of it not working, I'll give you one that it does work. The Browns are playing today in the divisional round of the playoffs. So, it's not a guarantee that you'll never be good.
Yes. It only took them roughly 40 years.

People talk about it never being helpful to lose on purpose, but we've been struggling to get to 8-8 every year for 15 years. If overcoming adversity to get to middling were actually such a character builder, we would have won many Super Bowls by now.

We're picking 10th. Which is OK. But we could have been picking 3rd or 4th or something in every round. So that's 40-50 spots of surrendered draft capital. And we didn't make the playoffs, so that flurry of wins at the end of the year did nothing but set us back long-term.

Also, signing a veteran backup quarterback - unless you're a serious contender, not a Jerry Jones magical-thinking contender - is a waste of resources. We got Andy Dalton. At the end of the year, our backup quarterback was better than the backup quarterbacks for other teams with injured starters. So we won a few games. It didn't help us. It hurt us. See paragraph 2.
I agree to a certain point. Should have played the youngsters earlier and gave them more game time experience, probably could have won instead of losing.

And let’s see DC coach is gone and about 10-15 vets will not be coming back.

And let’s see beat losing teams . Yea that was meaningful.

Tanking for what???? Unless you wanted Lawrence. Their isn't anyone else left worth tanking for. Just our luck it's one of the weakest drafts in history. Pete Werner, Jerry! Get a great high motor linebacker in the third round if he's there. From Ohio State!!!!

I love the fans that say you arent a true fan if you want to tank when in REALITY tanking this season would have been better for the long term success of the team. This same crap happened in the patrick peterson draft thank God we got lucky with Tyron Smith in that draft because we could have had Patrick Peterson.

What would you have done to tank? I'm curious, how would you have done it without being obvious and pissing off players that were playing for their jobs?
Like I said, by the end of November, this whole organization should have known this team was not making the playoffs. By playing to win a few meaningless games in December, it did nothing but help Jerry keep half of the fans happy in order to keep them coming to the games and spending more money on his failed organization. All you did was give more fuel to Jerry's failed football management. Like I said previously, Cowboys should have started backups all across the board to see if any are worth keeping while giving them some starting experience, all while punishing those overpaid starters for playing so poorly all season long and pretty much cementing a failed season.

Tanking is for losers.
See Philadelphia and the uproar that caused when they obviously laid down for 1 game.
Players no longer trust the coaches and the team becomes a laughing stock.

All for a crap shoot draft pick.
No thanks,

We can stay in Philly at look at other orgs. The 76ers basically owned tanking to a level not seen anywhere.
For those efforts they drafted Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor.
So 2 guys that lasted with the team and those 2's games don't mesh.
4 years of tanking for 2nd round playoff exits?

Again, no thanks.

Dallas played better the last 5 weeks largely by going back to the 4 down system.
They developed 3-4 guys this year who weren't really on radars or were massive questions marks.
Donovan Wilson, Randy Gregory, Dalton Schultz, Connor McGovern

That's getting better and helps you more next year than 4-5 draft slots that they could easily buy up to anyway once comp picks are awarded.

There were zero guys they needed to play more to prove anything outside potentially Bradley Anae.
They emptied the bench as it was.
They were already playing with street free agents who won't be back.

Lol!!! Punishing over paid players by giving them the day off and risk losing your team. All while coaches and players are playing for their jobs and livelihood. Sure, great idea.

Absolutely, Coach! It's called holding each person accountable for their actions, something this organization has failed to do for 25 years.

The whole starting LB core could have been replaced by backups. Same goes for the starting Dline.

That's goofball talk.
It was far more important to determine the guys they actually are keeping can play if the scheme is known to them.
They rotated in plenty of DL and LB was a wasteland where no one save Jaylon could play two weeks in a row without getting injured.
DAL didn't need to find out known scrubs are scrubs.

No one at all cares about a 6th string guy who won't even be on the roster.

Anyone who was anyone got a shot this year.
There are no hidden gems left.

If you think any coach, especially a first year HC that is trying to evaluate players and staff as well as trying to earn the players trust and create a winning attitude would ever do this, you are mistaken. Not gonna happen and it should never happen.

I love how there is that there is this assumption that tanking is a foolproof plan for success. And demonstrating how we got a potential HoF despite not tanking is the best that can be come up with.

First of all there is no guarantee that any draft pick will succeed.

Second the Eagles have demonstrated that even the appearance of tanking 1 game has serious effects on the team.

Operation tank would have gotten us the 3 pick at best and would mean actively trying to lose for 4 games. What could possibly go wrong?
