Strength of the team is our WR’s

What's even more stupid is the fact that the braintrust assembled the roster with the run game as the strength while the coaching staff seems to wants the qb to be the hero.

only because of the injuries along the o-line.
also think our DE group is pretty strong.

I guess this has to be said in every WR thread but one of the good things about having all 3 is that after next year we cut Cooper and his $20M and use that money on a big time FA and most likely Defense.
Lamb looks like a legit stud and was a great pick and still is IMO. There is more than one way to build a team and I suspect that if our OL wasn't decimated by injuries and we didn't lose Dak no one would be complaining about these 3 WRs, they'd be praising how great it is to have them all. It's going to be very difficult to cover all 3 and this is a passing league and one thing I'm optimistic about going into next year is our WRs

So those of you who don't like the pick. You know if we passed on Lamb we were taking Chaisson right? Go check out how he did and then come back and say you are unhappy with Lamb.
This. And if we had picked Chaisson and Lamb tore it up in Philly (or elsewhere) those same people would say the FO locks in on need and should go BPA.

I don’t think it’s as odd as people want to think it is. Kansas City, especially if we include Kelce is loaded with receivers. Tampa bays strength is their receivers.

Pittsburgh has tried to load up on receivers, even rebuilding teams like cincinnati are quietly building a strong wr unit.

Buffalo made themselves 3 deep at wr by bringing on diggs.

it’s just the way the league is headed.

Agreed, besides its not like the Cowboys used 4 out of 5 firstbround picks on receivers.

This team was built in the trenches

Weve dumped endless amount of resources on the offensive line with Fred, Tyron, Martin, and La’el and the defensive line with Lawrence, Smith, Gregory, Hill smith vander esch

the issue was our previous staff did nothing of note with what they had....Our strength when healthy is the offensive line

MM hasnt built anything here because he just sat down

When will we realize that team success depends on elite QB, followed by OL, great front 7. Everything else flows from there
Lol then midseason start crying about lack of pass rush up the middle.

No one in the world thought that Lamb would fall and they took him....which is what made that happen.

Its also why I want to part with Cooper after this year and spend his 20M on defense.....but that makes me a "hater."

I personally think it’s really odd to have the strength of your team as wide receivers....doesn’t make a lot of since to me to have so much draft capital tied up there but it is....

I can’t recall any good playoffs teams that had the WRs as their best unit
The Kansas City Chiefs if you consider Kelse a receiver. They have the best corps in the league and look like two time Super Bowl champs. Buffalo traded lots of picks and spent big money for their receivers. Tampa Bay has the best receivers on paper in the league. Good teams invest in the receiver position. It costs the Ravens last night having Dez out there.

I’m pretty sure Lamb will finish his career with multiple pro-bowls. Drafting a player like that is never a bad idea.

If this FO was smart we would have signed Dak, kept Zeke on his rookie contract, franchised Cooper, and still picked Lamb. And once the season imploded with Dak and our two tackles injured, we then could have traded Cooper and Zeke mid-season for draft picks.

But we didn't make that choice in one bite.

We *first* decided to trade a 1st round pick to get the rights to Cooper for a year and a half. We mortgaged the future to save a season for Garrett.

*That* was where we made the huge incremental commitment to WR. And a questionable one.

Having made that choice, paying Cooper a monster contract was the *best* case scenario. Worst case was finding out we wasted a 1st round pick on a year and a half rental.

Signing Lamb was getting great value with a 1st round pick, particularly where we sat and didn't have a great pick to take instead.

Though the relevant compare would be the trade back value we could have gotten for the Lamb pick. Was there ever word on what that was?

On the bright side, we've got a great receiving crew for next year, can let Gallup walk for a comp pick and not bat an eye in 2022, and can even trade/cut Cooper in 2022 and beyond whenever we want and still have a WR#1 talent on the team.

With Lamb, we won't be thinking about extending Gallup for more cap to WRs, and *can* drop our WR cap hit to tiny levels by moving on from Cooper, though I'm not in a rush to cut Cooper.

If they were really concerned about having too much resource tied up at WR this year when they sat on the clock for Lamb, they *could* have cashed out the value in Gallup's contract this year by trading him but didn't. This year was peak Gallup, after his big 2019. He'll never be thought of as a potential #1 again. May as well just keep him next year, as doubt we could get more in trade value than the eventual comp pick.

Moving Gallup would have been the move to make over not picking Lamb. Lamb was too much value to pass up. Most of that value comes in future years where we *don't* spend more at WR and can transition from Cooper to Lamb as our #1.

At the time, I thought the Lamb pick was the best move. Today, I still like the pick. A defensive draft would be a step in the right direction.

I mean NE, Seattle, even Denver to an extent (they had a great front 7 but that secondary had 2 top 5 corners), all built there defenses starting with the secondary. It is VERY doable to build a secondary first defense and win with that.

Exactly. Our front 7 is bad (well was terrible last year). And our oline looks a bit shaky. Will Collins come back, will Smith come back? We cannot go another year with Connor williams at LG. Tired of seeing him get bull rushed in to the QB constantly.

yep another reason id love to draft kyle pitts i dont care how good the fans here think our TE's are not only would i draft a Pitts my second focus would be on fixing the Oline. Id let the defense go this year unless we can get a piece or 2 in free agency for the right price.
