According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, current Saints assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell will be the Detroit Lions’ head coach.

“Today, you are going to see the next head coach of the Detroit Lions on the Saints staff” Rapoport said on Sunday morning. “Dan Campbell, the assistant head coach and tight ends coach of the New Orleans Saints, is expected to be the next coach of the Lions—a decision they made late this week.”

Rapoport notes, obviously, that this can’t be official until the Saints are out of the playoffs. He also expects the team to bring him in for a second interview before finalizing the deal, but says the hiring “is expected to happen.”

Campbell had been considered a finalist for the past couple days since the Lions hired Brad Holmes as their next general manager on Thursday. There were reports that Detroit may have had other finalists in consideration, but it was never clear if there were any truly close competitors to Campbell.

Idk Dan Campbell is a great coach but that franchise just grinds through players and coaches with no real results

If they want Campbell to be successful then please give him 5 years because it might take that long.....even in this quick turnaround era it might take them a lil longer

Good for him. Always liked him. Wasn’t he a Parcells guy, seem to recall him having a positive impact on young Jason Witten, sadly another wasted career at the Dallas Jerry’s

Good for him. Remember him being interim for the Dolphins and it was odd when they kicked him to the curb after that when it seemed the players were gravitating towards him.

I like him. It’ll be interesting to see what he can do.
He did a nice job with a bad Dolphins team as interim a few years back.
Might takes time but he will make them a better team.. the Lions first choice was Detroit native Robert Saleh
I see Detroit fans not happy with the hire

I would have been ok with him getting a shot in Dallas if I thought he could handle working with Jerry. That might have been a lot to ask, though.

Poor Sean -- he probably deserves a better fate but at least, he'd likely be working for a better defense! :muttley:
Lol. Loved watching Sean play at Penn State. He loves the game. But 14 years at his position takes a toll on the body.

Hopefully Jerry gives him a coaching position. Have a feeling Sean will be hanging up his cleats.

So true -- Sean would probably play almost as many games retired as he might by playing! :omg: He'd best switch to coaching LBs.
