It’s about winning championships, not meaningless games. You see it that way, I see it as a deafetest ideology.
It’s about winning championships, not meaningless games.
I wouldn’t expect a casual fan like you to get it.
I truly don't understand the need to denigrate one another because we disagree on this. Both stances have merit and of course each person is entitled to his or her own take on it. I'm a "play to win or stay home" guy but I understand why some folks think losing might have been better "for the future." I just don't agree. If this team can't find an impact player outside of the top 5 of the draft then nothing is ever going to fix it anyway. They've shown in the past they absolute can so I have to believe they can again.. What they haven't shown is the ability to get good players in free agency. I'm far more concerned about their free agent signings than I am the draft picks.
It's over and done.People talk about it never being helpful to lose on purpose, but we've been struggling to get to 8-8 every year for 15 years. If overcoming adversity to get to middling were actually such a character builder, we would have won many Super Bowls by now.
We're picking 10th. Which is OK. But we could have been picking 3rd or 4th or something in every round. So that's 40-50 spots of surrendered draft capital. And we didn't make the playoffs, so that flurry of wins at the end of the year did nothing but set us back long-term.
Also, signing a veteran backup quarterback - unless you're a serious contender, not a Jerry Jones magical-thinking contender - is a waste of resources. We got Andy Dalton. At the end of the year, our backup quarterback was better than the backup quarterbacks for other teams with injured starters. So we won a few games. It didn't help us. It hurt us. See paragraph 2.
Right they’re not quitters. Shoot em
Keep on being in denial. You're simply wrong. If Jimmy was coaching this bunch of overpaid slackers and dummies on the field, and he knew the chances of making the playoffs was over by the end of November, I guarantee you he would have sat down those overpaid starters to put some serious fear into their actions while playing backups across the board to send the message that everyone who doesn't perform up to expectations is replaceable.I don't know what Jimmy would do and neither do you. You trying to assert his authority through your wishful thinking is not a real argument.
I have read about how he was desperate for a win in that first season and i have never heard him support tanking but when you wish upon a star. . . .
No way you tank for a higher draft pick. For team sports, you need to develop a culture of winning. It was important that we got a few wins at the end of the season. It gives the player’s confidence in each other and the coaching staff. Do you really think some team is suddenly going to turn it around because you drafted 4th rather than 10th?

And what do you think you're doing? Keep being in denial all you want. All you've done is feed Jerry's ego and his failed philosophy. You don't get to speak for anyone but yourself. Keep on wishcasting though.
Say whatever you want to say to make yourself feel better but it’s still quitting. We’re talking about people and how that mentality will fester in the minds of the players not pork bellies.Commodity prices go up and down. Selling one does not mean you are quiting. Just changing directions. Happens in every business. Every single player is a commodity.
Good GM's do not only think about the next game or quarter. Like the other poster said, plans must include long term (more than just the following season) strategy and short term goals. This team rarely plans past the following season.

Seriously, a good portion of the fan base thinks Dak is a top ten QB, that's all you need to know about the complete lack of logic and knowledge.x 100
We should never, ever, say Cowboys have the smartest fans in the NFL....
"moral victory"? By teaching the players how to win ball games? You certain CAN "build for next year" by doing that. You find out who "you're guys" are...what they are made of. Who you should take with you into this next year you want to build for. Also find out where your weaknesses are...so you know what to remove. It's an even better strategy pretending you're good enough every year. Been working real well. If the team is no longer in the playoff hunt then the following year should be priority #1 not not the usual crap wins we've grown accustomed to. That was a Garrett staple. You been watching for a quarter of a century? This team stinks.... regularly. But remember that win against the Commanders last year? Good times!! What an amazing performance!! Really accelerated this team to new heights lol The usual. People talk about building through the draft and then pretend draft position isn't more important than a win that amounts to absolutely nothing. You already stunk up the season to the point where the playoffs are a pipe dream but some Cowboy fans love a good moral victory!
yeah daddy, call'em "quitter trolls" don't forget to donate too.Say whatever you want to say to make yourself feel better but it’s still quitting. We’re talking about people and how that mentality will fester in the minds of the players, not pork bellies.
