Great players make coaches look good.
It doesn't matter who the coach is with crappy players.
The roster is, and has been, the problem.
How many different coaches will it take for people to understand this? We're on #6 since the last championship.

After you consider the positions, the players must be considered next and they are connected as that's why the Lions kept picking WR's first, they were missing on the players.

What is surprising are the positions following WR's but that also relates to where they were picked. They haven't taken a DT high since Johnson picked Maryland or gone for a blue chipper in FA since Parcells got Glover. They simply do not place a high value on the DT position.

Booger is just following the ball and the money. What position is the most exciting in the game? WR Offense sells tickets and garners attention and he is concerned about putting an entertaining product on the field.

Therein lies the rub between owner and GM. All of the owners want an entertaining product; all the GM's want to win. I'd like to see a draft where no one but the owners picked in the 1st round. How many D players do you think we'd see?

One of the great bafflers for me here is the McClay love and this idea that the Cowboys are this top 10 drafting team. I see comments about players making the team or starting. What's the end result? There are a lot of players that could start on the DAL defense and many are backups on other teams.

The problem with the Cowboys acquiring players, draft or FA, is that they treat it like a checklist. Need a DT, OK, got one, check that one off the list. Wait a minute, not so fast. How good is he? They've been addressing the DT position from a positional standpoint, they don't have the players. I know some of you get excited about Gallimore, just like some got excited about Tapper. Remember him and all that "he needs to play more!"

Some here have that same ailment that Booger has. Whoever the player is automatically becomes better because he's a Cowboy and every player wants to be a Cowboy. This "talent" perception is a true mystery to me.
* Hahaha ,yeah& what really inwardly cracks me up? is the recently murmured rumbling's "Time to start GROOMING the #13's GALLUP's replacement",,,as his free agency is looming on the horizon,,, SHEESE,,, that brand of "Talent" just can't be instilled thru a player simply being "coached up"

I'll need to see the by-laws on that one.
Like some sort of Dragon Force If-you-separate-for-more-than-5-minutes-the-bus-explodes kind of deal.

good point, but add to that Haley and deion, and that explains war daddy and CB.
Jerry thinks that is all you need is good players in those 5 positions.
Then the rest can be meh so so players, and of course any 1 of 500 coaches lol.:D
The “ 1 of 500 coaches “ only refers to that championship team. Which he was right although it cost us at least 1 championship.

Thanks for posting really interesting information. I will say WR doesn't surprise me at all and would imagine it's pretty high on most teams lists. Simply because its a one of the heaviest carried personnel groups and one that gets churned a good amount.

It seems like a miss at DT and S to not invest more draft capital and coincidentally those positions have also been needs for a while.

It's remarkable we haven't spent a 1st round pick on a QB. A reminder that we were lucky to hit with Romo and Dak, otherwise we would be stuck in the Campo years for a long time. Still puzzling after Aikman retired we pretty much ignored QB for a while.

I would be curious to see a breakdown of the most successful teams positional draft breakdown through the first 3 rounds. Wonder if there's a consistent trend?
