Cooper would be a fine and safe restructure.

Elliott would be silly. Why kick the can further down the road on a TB that already has shown he's not quite the same TB he was 3-4 years ago?
Agree about Elliott. They will have to ride that contract out. I think they have to wait after the 2022 season.

Release all defense except Diggs & Gallimore. Keep the rooks. The rest are too busy naming themselves & celebrating after tackles 17 yards down the field.

We badly needed "trash " that bad ? Doesn't make logical sense at all.
What does that tell about your management to get another rotation guy instead of
keeping trash ?

Crawford was kept because he was a rah-rah locker room guy. You do not dish out 9 million to be a nice guy around. Instead of at least demanding a significant pay cut, you give
him a charitable 9 million that could have been used elsewhere.

And 2020 was anything new about Crawford, they are right there on the sideline to observe him, plenty; plenty of tape to know what they were getting
and they are in the building to know what they were getting.

and all the more that made less sense is that he is still recovering from hip surgery, and that alone should have been a play and reason to cut his roster salary back.
All the versatility rap and being a nice guy is not a reason to dishing out 9 million to a limited role player that wasn't even a starter.

This was easily his worst year as a player - and I guess he reserved the worst for last. And the Cowboys once again blew because they " admired' him.

When Dak signs, even if an average of $35 or $40 million, this years cap hit will not be that. With a signing bonus and a 1st year salary structure it may only be a $20 million hit and same for the following year. Could be less. then the latter years it escalates, and by then they could restructure, sign a longer term deal even, if he is the QB we all hope he can be.

Well, some will not hope that, they want him to fail.

Sorry, but I just don't buy that. Look at all the other QB contracts in that range and how they are structured. How are you going to give Dak the guaranteed amount his agent is looking for and have a first year cap number that low without violating the CBA's 30 percent rule?

Contracts are built to restructure. That's just what the Cowboys do. Cut overpaid/underperforming vets. There is more cap space than it looks like.

I wouldn't restructure Elliott or Cooper.

And before any of you start with the word "hate," no...it's just good business not to do that with either at this stage.

Cooper's contract is an ideal one to restructure.

You restructure the guys with GTD moneyas their base already.
Cooper and Jaylon Smith and Zeke.
Those contracts were designed such that they are really roster bonuses and meant to flip.

Zack Martin you restructure because he's just too good to let of go of anytime soon.

DLaw you restructure if you NEED the money but not just for grins.

It'll all be fine and you'll have space.
It isn't kicking the can if you free up 25M again to roll over next year. --i.e. what you might do with a long term deal struck for Dak.

The NFL cap in 2 years is going to rise incredibly because we had a 1 year nightmare.

Elliott's contract may have been designed to restructure but it would beyond idiotic after what we witnessed to kick a bunch of cap hits into the future on him.

Dallas isn't cutting Anthony Brown.

This FO absolutely loves him, and every insider in Dallas will tell you the same thing.
We’ve got two CB’s that are free agents
Creating a 3rd hole at CB isn’t a very smart move
We need to add 2 already

Aaron Rogers average is 33.25 million a year. Tom Bradys is 50 million for two years. Josh Allen is 5.295 million. Patrick Mahomes makes 5.347 million against the cap in 2020. His contract will jump up to 45 million in 2022. Time will tell how the Chiefs will do when the Mahomes money kicks in. All the quarterbacks in the final four are reasonable compared to what some are getting.

I wouldn’t restructure zeke
Not because of this year, I expect him to bounce back next year with a healthy line
But RB is the worst position to restructure
When they go, they go fast
I wouldn't restructure Zeks either. It would be a big mistake to kick that contract down the road. I hope he does bounce back.

2. Sign Dak to a 4-year deal averaging just shy of $40M/year. If I had to bet, I'd say they get the fourth year they're looking for at around $39.5 million per season. I don't think this will give us a ton of cap relief next year. Just look at the Deshaun Watson or Carson Wentz contracts. They might be able to pull off a slightly lower cap hit this year with a guaranteed restructure in 2022, but it's still going to be in the thirties for 2021.

I agree it's going to take some doing to sign Dak, I looked at the cap and contracts too. I think the first year should be in the thirties, but it doesn't have to be. But I only believe that because I don't think the Cowboys are winning more than 6 games next season, so why have a low cap hit? Might as well put the brunt of the hit next year. But it doesn't have to be. You say 39.5 Mil for four years, but what is the guaranteed money? If it's 100 million, that's in the first 3 years. It could be 20, 35, 45, with the rest on the 4th year he'll never see. He'll either be resigned and restructured, or cut. The best case scenario is a 5 year deal.

I don’t expect Zeke to bounce back. He’ll only be 26 next year but he has had an enormous workload going back to his 3 years at Ohio St and his 5 years in the NFL. His body just isn’t the same. We’re probably stuck with him one more year but after that he needs to be released.

Paying a guy that kind of money to be the 12th best RB in the league is crazy, even for Jerry. Cutting him in 2022 will cost about $6-7 mil against the cap but if we drafted a mid-round RB to be paired with Pollard (or someone else) we would probably have similar if not better production numbers. This team doesn’t need to be built around a washed up, overpaid RB. And that’s not “Zeke hate”, it’s NFL reality.

We shall see
As you said we are stuck with him for now
I hope I’m right about bouncing back but either way we are gonna find out because he’s ours
